Facebook has been taking measured steps toward boosting its mobile presence over the past few months. Now, in the hopes of continuing this effort, Facebook has acquired technology startup in India.
According to Mashable, Facebook has purchased Little Eye Labs, a company that developers tools that Android application developers can use to analyze and enhance the efficiency of mobile apps. The Bangalore-based company describes its function in greater detail on its website.
Financial terms have apparently not yet been disclosed to the public, but Little Eye Labs will be the first company that Facebook has purchased in India. Carson Dalton, the Indian spokesperson for Apple declined to comment on the matter when Mashable reached out for information on the terms of the deal.
Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire chief executive officer and founder of Facebook, is stepping up the company's efforts to keep the site as the number two top seller of online advertisements, after Google Inc., by getting the company on board with the growing trend in mobile. Ad dollars spent by U.S. companies on mobile devices will account for 23 percent of digital-ad expense in 2013, up from 12 percent in the previous year according to New York-based researcher EMarketer Inc.
The company is "focused on producing useful and engaging mobile apps," Subbu Subramanian, Facebook's engineering manager, said in an e-mailed statement. "The Little Eye Labs technology will help us to continue improving our Android codebase to make more efficient, higher-performing apps."
The entire team at Little Eye Labs will be moving to Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park California. The firm began about a year ago from founder Kumar Rangarajan. It has received financing from angel investors GSF India and VenturEast Tenet Fund, according to the company's website.
