Apple's new app for its Apple TV, a design to update users with all the programs across all platforms, has been stated to be "useless".
Apple TV's new app has left out two of the biggest video streaming providers: Amazon Video and Netflix. Of course, Amazon was never in the list of Apple TV's index of apps. Amazon has its own Fire TV and stick. But why leave out Netflix?
"Apple indeed took a reductive approach on its new Apple TV app. The service is utterly depleted without Amazon Video and Netflix. This is a huge letdown by a company that was once the gold standard of innovation," explain critics.
It is not clear why Apple has not included Netflix, which is the most popular streaming service in the world. Netflix "cracks" the top of the app charts on Apple TV, after all. If users can watch Netflix shows on their Apple TVs, they would have to fall back on the common Netflix app instead of the new TV app.
Hence, the new TV app is "useless" as a huge number of shows from people's 'favourites' lists would be left out. They would be featured in Netflix as well as Amazon Video.
Moreover, users with the TV app will need to subscribe to a number of separate services so that they can maximise its streaming capabilities. It wouldn't help for users to sign up for services before they can stream them. It dampens the possibility of diversification in Apple.
