NBA Trade rumors start to swirl around New York Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson. As the NFL trade deadline is about to end on Tuesday, November 1 at 4p.m, rumors are spreading that the Jets DE is collecting suitors the past few days and one of them is the New York Giants.
Earlier reports also said that the Jets are having many phone calls inquiring the availability of their 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year winner but it is never clear what was discussed during the call. But many pundits are saying that the Richardson might be shift to other teams and it could be with the Giants soon.
According to NJ, the Giants is in dire need of a defensive player like Richardson to man up their defensive line. They are struggling on the defensive end most especially on pass yard allowing opponents to an average of 267.4 yards (22nd). And adding Richardson to the lineup will probably make the Giants better and contend with other stronger teams that they will face.
However, the only barrier that this deal could happen is Richardson's salary as per stated in the report. Richardson is about to receive $8.069 million next year and the Giants might not be able to absorb it.
But it is hard to pass up a high-caliber player like Richardson that has the skill to switch position. Aside from being a defensive end, he can also be a defensive tackle or a linebacker.
On the separate report by Giants Wire, Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon are the only ones the Giants is depending on the defensive line as backup defense Owa Odighizuwa and Kerry Wynn are comparatively unproductive for the past few games. Pierre-Paul can also be used as trade bait as he will become a free agent after this season and his contract of $10 million will certainly shave some space to the Giants salary.
If ever the Giants is serious about acquiring Richardson, the question is are they willing to pay the price to the Jets? And with the trade deadline about to expire today, the Giants should decide fast if they'll make a move for Richardson.
Will the New York Giants be able to come up a scheme that could net New York Jets DE Sheldon Richardson?
