CES 2014: A Dalek Made Of Speakers Is On The Loose In Las Vegas (VIDEO)

Everyone who is a fan of the famous British science fiction TV series "Doctor Who" is aware of the raspy shriek of the alien menace, the Daleks, as they chant, "exterminate!" across the universe. Now, that chilling cry has never been easier to hear than at the show room floor of this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where reports indicate that a Dalek made entirely of speakers, is on the loose.

The international CES is a place for futuristic technology, but Massive Audio, a car-speaker company, has taken things to a new level by building a 6-foot-tall replica of a Dalek from the iconic British series made entirely out of the company's speaker components, including 32 woofers along the robot's bottom, a huge subwoofer inside the head and 5,000 watts of amplifiers in the back, according to Mashable. The Dalek is powered by a pair of massive batteries.

"The most difficult part was building the skirt that has all the speakers in it," said Massive's Bill Wyko, the man behind building the evil machine replica. "There's about six angles that go in different directions on each panel, so the it's very difficult to calculate the speaker positioning."

The replica is not just for show, it is a fully functioning machine capable of barking commands or playing music streamed from any smartphone or tablet device. It's limbs, typically the carriers of weapons in the show, articulate as well. Massive Audio is finalizing an app to control them via a smartphone, although it wasn't ready in time for the Consumer Electronics Show.

The company estimates the 926-pound Doctor Who homage is valued at having cost around $25,000 to build. Massive plans to take the Dalek on tour in the first half of 2014. Once the tour is done, the company has plans to auction it off on eBay in the summer. All of the money made from the sale will be donated to the BBC's children's charity.
