Samsung Galaxy S4 gets Android 7.0 Nougat update via CyanogenMod v14.1

The update schedule for the Samsung galaxy S4 was officially stoppedby Samsung way back in 2015. But users should not fret as CyanogenMod is on the rescue and make it possible for them to get the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update.

Thanks due to XDA developers and other ROM modders, there's some new ray of hope for the S4 fans after all. A new report on IBTimes details about a nougat rom from CyanogenMOD v14.1. The device, however, is currently on the official release of Android Lollipop OS v5.0.1.

The new Cyanogenmod ROM would likely withhold users from switching to a new device anytime soon. This is an added bonus and power of modding the operating systems on Android environment due to them being an open-source eligible for development by any.

Cyanogenmod, for sometime, has been one of the most prominent developers where at one point even collaborated with manufacturers like OnePlus (for the OnePlus 1) and Micromax's Yu devices.

They're generally a reliable source for most ROMs based on new operating systems for obsolete smart phones where their primary intention is to make sure users of those phones can enjoy a piece of the new OS, too.

The new ROM based on Nougat OS was released with version 14.1 for the LTE models of Samsung Galaxy S4. Currently, for the time being this is being experimented on some devices as a part of 'work-in-progress' procedure. Hence, it will definitely have some issues or bugs that many users find it concerning.

This would also result in losing functionality to a lot of features. So, before proceeding with installation, it's always suggested not to hop in unless it's fine with bearing one or another issue that might take some time to be fixed.

There are some prerequisites, however, prior to installing the ROM. The first one is that this is currently working only on select LTE phones of the S4 at the moment. Using it on other variants might result in hardware faults. Another con would be the fact that it will void all your phone support and warranty.

The process wouldn't really go through without rooting smartphones, hence, it's best advised for beginners to stay away from it till a stable release is available. Rooting and installing custom ROMs is an advanced process for experienced android developers and professionals with prior knowledge about the subject.
