'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 PREVIEW: Nina Dobrev returns in Episode 4 as Katherine, not Elena? [Watch]

Nina Dobrev might have left the series that catapulted her to fame but fans are still looking forward to her return especially since the series is ending soon. With "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 being the last, fans are hoping Elena Gilbert or Katherine Pierce makes a surprise appearance before the show ends.

Executive producer Julie Plec is quite sure that Dobrev will be returning to the series and that they are currently working to sort things out for this to happen. Her return could possibly create a conflict for the Salvatore brothers, Damon and Stefan, played by Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, respectively.

Somerhalder and Wesley both expressed that they wanted the show to end on a brotherly note, as reported by Celebrity Dirty Laundry. While Somerhalder wanted the ending to be Damon and Stefan jumping on a plane to head to the Caribbean and disappearing, Wesley wanted them to take off their daylight and die together.

Pretty morbid, huh? Dobrev's return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will certainly make things difficult and will make the two actors preferred endings hard to do.

Parent Herald reports that Dobrev will be coming back to the show as Katherine, the ancient vampire that made life difficult for the main characters. The actresss return will be plagued with controversies, though.

Sources say that her comeback is linked to Somerhalder and Nicki Reeds divorce. Allegedly, Reed does not like seeing her husband working with Dobrev. This might be the reason why Nina Dobrev is coming back as Katherine instead of Elena.

"Delena" has always been the fans favorite couple in the show and some of them are still devastated as to what happened with their story. They might be disappointed to know that there is a huge possibility that Dobrevs return won't signal a plot focused once again on Delena romance.
