After Donald Trump's shock victory, there are many who claim that they are not surprised, and that they had known it all along, as the French astrologer, Nostradamus, had predicted it in the 16th century.
He wrote in Century III, Quatrain 81: "The great shameless, audacious bawler. He will be elected governor of the army: The boldness of his contention. The bridge broken, the city faint from fear."
The interpretations of the "shameless, audacious bawler" has been seen as Trump's "loud communication." The "governor of the army" is leading the world's army. Hence, the indications and hints are clearly pointing to Trump.
There is another prediction in Century 1, 40. It says: "The false trumpet concealing madness will cause Byzantium to change its laws."
Even though Byzantium was a colony from ancient Greece, it is currently a parallel hotspot for immigrants and refugees. The immigrant issue has always been at the eye of a storm stirred by every speech of Trump's.
There is more to come in Quatrain 50, in which he says that "the Republic of the big city" will get involved in costly military operations. They have been commanded by the "trumpet". It has moved on to fears of nuclear war.
However, there are many contrarian predictions. Said another interpretation according to a History Channel documentary. In a verse, Century VIII, Quatrain 15, there is an explanation of a "masculine woman" who "will exert herself to the north." Many believers feel that it is all about Hillary Clinton winning.
Said Century I, Quatrain 25: "The lost thing is discovered. By other rumors he shall be dishonored." Is this all about Trump's sexual impropriety?
Another verse forecasts his failure, not success. Said Century V, Quatrain 60, which hints at his failure. It says: "Overburdened he will not pass the gate; He will speak with such great fury and rage, That to fire and blood he will consign the entire sex."
But one thing there is no dispute about is his prediction of the end of the world. He wrote: "The moment of great violence will coincide with the appearance of a comet in the sky. Nuclear combat and natural disasters shall strike our planet when a giant planet approaches Earth."
There have been a number of reactions to Nostradamus' predictions. Said one Facebook commentator: "I'm pretty sure this is the start to Nostradamus' prediction of the Apocalypse."
Said another: "Nostradamus predicted this outcome. Nostradamus predicted after the trumpet wins, there will be a Great War! He predicted this 400 yrs ago!"
"His prediction have all come true! I'm afraid America is going fall, compare us to Roma, we have too much debt, and we import more than we export, we are in serious trouble."
However, equally vocal were the disbelievers:
"Load of tosh, you can read anything into Nostradamus' predictions," retorted one disbeliever.
"Nuclear war was not in Nostradamus vocabulary back then...," another person said.
"Nostradamus predicted everything and nothing. You can twist his words to mean anything from the end of the world to your Uncle Fred's bunion operation," said another in a quip.
