CBS' action police procedural television series, NCIS, has been facing cancellation rumors for a while now. This is reportedly due to the series' immediate declination after Michael Weatherly, who portrayed the character Anthony DiNozzo for seasons 1-13, had left the show.
Reports are claiming that the significant drop of the show's ratings had been seen when there was no sign of Weatherly appearing on the episodes of the series' 14th season. The season reportedly had a good start at its premiere, but the following episodes had apparently started dropping.
However, according to some reports, Weatherly is reportedly going to return to the series. It has been rumored that the 48-year old actor will come back as Anthony DiNozzo in hopes that the series regains its high ratings. But according to a source, the actor's return might not help because of the show's active and stable fanbase.
Rumors have it that Mark Harmon, who portrays Leroy Gibbs, is planning to leave the series because of the reported poor ratings. According to The Bitbag, the 65-year old actor is reportedly bound for a new television series and for new opportunities. Other sources said that the actor will focus on dealing with his health condition as co-actors claim that he is already getting thin.
However, TMZ tells a different story, which involved Harmon's dog, Dave. Dave reportedly bit one of the series' crews' hand which resulted to hospitalization of the crew and a 16-stitch wound recovery. The crew fortunately recovered fast, as per the source.
The speculations about Harmon leaving the series, had not yet been officially confirmed though by the studio itself. Fans also do not want this to happen. It can be recalled that the actor had received a number of nominations for his role on the series.
But speculations about NCIS'cancellation is already headlining if the consecutive drop on ratings becomes continuous.
