World renowned British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, whose work has revolutionized our comprehension of black holes and the cosmos, said human beings will not see the next millennium.
"I don't think we will survive another 1000 years without escaping beyond our planet, " said Hawking as reported by The Seeker.
The renowned scientist was reportedly talking to Oxford University, tackling questions on the origins of the cosmos and human existence. He also reminded the audiences at the historic Oxford Union debate hall that humans have a sell by da if they continue to live on this planet, said the report.
Science alert said that Hawking had recently cautioned the world on developing artificial intelligence, describing it as either the best or the worst thing to ever happen to humanity.
The report said that he thought human beings are prone to make the same mistakes over and over again. Hawkings suspected that "powerful autonomous" weapons could signal serious consequences to Earth.
The Physics icon added that human beings cannot colonize Mars for another 100 years or so and that it is not a viable option at the moment. He added that pandemics brought about by anti-biotic resistance and nuclear weaponry of aggressive nations, not taking into account the horrible effects of climate change, may be some of the things to worry about.
The report added that Hawking is a great fan of space exploration and his excitement for human beings to leave Earth and spread throughout the solar system is well known. Hawkings sees this as an integral part of survival since settling in an alien world is an insurance policy for the survival of human species.
Science alert reports that Hawkings is very concerned about developing autonomous weapons so that he added a name to a coalition of 20,000 researchers and experts, including Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, and called for a ban on developing these weapons system.
