The New Orleans Pelicans started the season 2-10 win-loss record. But with veteran guard Jrue Holiday back in the lineup, things got better offensively for the Pelicans. They were in a roll as they won four straight games.
Now, they have a record of 6-10 for 12th place in the Western Conference. But although they have shown some improvement, it is most likely that the Pelicans will not make the playoffs this year. Or if they do, they might be dispatched easily by either Golden State Warriors or the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round.
Pelicans' star is having a breakout season. In 15 games with the Pelicans this season, he is averaging an unbelievable 31.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 36.7 minutes. He is second in the league in scoring, 8th in rebounds and first in blocks. And just his last game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he recorded a staggering 45 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block.
But despite that, it seems like he can't contend for an NBA title for quite some time in the Pelicans uniform. In his four full seasons with the Pelicans, he only managed to carry the Pelicans to the playoffs once. And according to HNGN, playing for a more contender team will be better for Davis. And the Cleveland Cavaliers might be just the right team for him.
The Cavaliers and the Warriors met in the NBA Finals for the last two seasons. And this season, they are once again the overwhelming favorites to contend for the Larry O-Brien Championship trophy.
The Warriors already upgraded their roster with the addition of NBA superstar Kevin Durant. With that in mind, the Cavs are said to be looking to upgrade their roster.
If Davis will play for the Cavs, they will certainly be a much dangerous team. With Tristan Thompson and Anthony Davis as frontcourt starters, opposing teams might find it hard to score in the paint as both players are very good inside defenders. He will also be a big boost for the Cavs offense.
Aside from that, Davis will finally get a chance to contend for an NBA title. Playoff experiences will help a lot in Davis' development as a player.
And in exchange for Davis, the Cavs can send Kevin Love to the New Orleans Pelicans. In his last game against the Portland Trailblazers, Love scored an insane 34 points in one quarter. This is the highest scoring performance in the first quarter by a player in NBA history. This is also the second highest scoring output by a player in any quarter in NBA history behind Klay Thompson's 37 point performance against the Kings last year, per ESPN.
Love just showed that he can still be a franchise player for a team. If he will play for the Pelicans, he can get back his offensive production and he can be the go-to guy once again.
Will Anthony Davis join forces with LeBron James and help the Cavs win back-to-back NBA titles this season? Stay tuned for more NBA trade rumors and updates.
