The Phoenix Suns are struggling this season. At 5-13 win-loss record, they are 14th in the Western Conference. They lost 4 of their last 5 games this season with the latest defeat came from the hands of the Denver Nuggets.
Devin Booker is having a breakout season this year. He is averaging 18.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 33.3 minutes. He already scored 20 or more points in 7 games. Eric Bledsoe is also having a great season with 18.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 32.2 minutes.
Despite a stellar season from Booker and Bledsoe, the Suns were still one of the worst team in the NBA. Aside from the fact that the Suns are playing a much competitive Western Conference, the struggle of Brandon Knight might also play a big factor.
Now on his sixth NBA season, Knight is averaging 12.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 17 games for the Suns this season. His minutes went down from 36.0 to 25.0 minutes this season. His field goal percentage (38.4%) and his three-point percentage (31.1%) were also down from 41.5% and 34.2%.
According to bleacher report, dealing Knight is a possibility this season because of Suns' rich backcourt talent. Could Knight be a great back-up point guard for All-Star Kyrie Irving in Cleveland Cavaliers? And in exchange, the Cavs could send Iman Shumpert and Chris Andersen to the Phoenix Suns.
At 12-2 win-loss record, the Cavaliers are first in the East. They won three straight games. And at 112.0 points per game, they are in second in the NBA in scoring behind rival Golden State Warriors. But as good as the Cavs are, the Warriors still looks like the best in the league.
The Cavs are said to be looking to upgrade their roster as they are bound to meet their rival Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals this season. And they are rumored to be looking for a backup point guard for Kyrie Irving.
The Cavs are speculated to be interested in acquiring veteran point guard Deron Williams, as per HNGN. But Brandon Knight is a much better player than Williams. Aside from that, Knight is also more athletic and younger.
If Knight will play for the Cavs, he might play lesser minutes and lesser role. But he will have a chance to contend for an NBA title. And the Cavs could also benefit in this trade.
Knight is a starting point guard caliber player. In fact, he started 50 games with the Suns last season. He is also a proven scorer who could carry the second unit offense for the Cavs.
Will Brandon Knight be traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers? Stay tuned for more NBA trade rumors and updates.
