PS4 Pro and LG TVs had a strong relationship since Sony's high-spec PlayStation Pro launched. Displays from the Korean manufacturer have had trouble problems while outputting the console's 4K and HDR images across the board.
Sony just released a new PS4 software update that is focused on improving system performance. The 4.0.6 firmware can be downloaded right now and it's around 300MB.
This update is a mandatory software update so everyone is required to connect their PS4 to Sony's PSN and download the update. The update is downloaded automatically by the PS4, the only thing it needs is a strong internet connection.
The second November update doesn't bring too many new features. The patch notes only included "This system software update improves the quality of the system performance", the same statement included in the October 4.0.5 update log.
Shortly after the PS4 Pro release, LG has issued a statement saying that a firmware update to correct the shortcoming will be live by the end of November.
Comments in reddit confirm that users across the U.S. and U.K. haven't been provided the fix yet. In particular, alleged conversation with an LG support professional has suggested that the North American update will not be published until Dec. 28.
This could be a pretty big bummer for those who are hoping to get a Pro for the holidays. Such compatibility is precisely argued that consumers should wait on Pro until after the seasonal rush.
Workarounds are also available, like swapping HDMI ports or setting the console to HDCP to version 1.4 using the system's safe mode menu. This method will be allowing games to play with 4K and HDR, but streaming apps like Netflix, won't display the enhanced resolution, reports iDigitalTimes.
PS4 Pro is now available for the standard price of $399, but shoppers should be watchful for sales in the holiday weeks to come.
