The Toronto Raptors are doing great at the start of the regular season. Holding a 16-7 record, they are currently at the 2nd spot in the Eastern Conference just one game behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. But, rumors are spreading that a rumored deal is in the works between them and the Memphis Grizzlies and it involves Marc Gasol and Jonas Valanciunas as part of the alleged deal.
The Raptors, who have a splendid showing last season, are said to be on the right track again this season. They are one of the early favorite team in the East and are expected to duplicate what they have done last season. But their 112-116 loss to the defending champs last Monday seems to be signifying that they haven't solved the game of the Cavs.
Aside from that, the Raptors and Cavs already met three times this season and the Cavs won all those three games. It sends a message to the Raptors that they really needed an upgrade and it should be done right away. Now, a rumored deal could be underway that could strengthen their lineup.
A proposed trade deal is being suggested to the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies that involves 4 players and a future draft pick. Trade scenario is suggesting that Grizzlies will send Marc Gasol and Vince Carter to the Raptors in exchange for Jonas Valanciunas, Terrence Ross plus a second-round draft pick.
Earlier report this year said that the Raptors and Grizzlies were reportedly in trade talks about a Gasol and Valanciunas trade ahead of the February trade deadline. This is part of the Raptors plan to boost their roster and prepare for the playoffs. But as history goes, it never came into reality. Could this be the time to revisit those deal again?
There is no doubt that Gasol is an upgrade of Valanciunas skill and experience wise. He will immediately give impact to the Raptors offense aside from an added inside operator down low. While this could be a homecoming for Carter who played for Raptors for 6 years where he established his name and game.
On the other hand, the Grizzlies will acquire dependable players in Valanciunas and Ross. Production will also not be a problem as both players are producing solid numbers that will easily fill in Gasol's numbers. The future draft pick could also be a steal for the Grizzlies so it the deal makes sense for them.
The trade deal will also work under the NBA trade rules and salary cap policy and will have the approval of league officials as per checking with ESPN NBA Trade Machine. It is now in the hands of both teams if they are willing to negotiate and sit down on the trading table.
Will the Memphis Grizzlies agree to trade Marc Gasol and Vince Carter to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Jonas Valanciunas and Terrence Ross?
