Screenwriter Michael Arndt might have part ways from the “Star Wars Episode 7” production team due to creative differences, not a time constraint.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, insider sources claim Ardnt wanted to focus on the children of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), but director J.J. Abrams had a different vision for the movie.
Abrams wanted the movie’s plot to focus on the original cast members, sort of a final farewell to them as they transitioned to the next generation.
“The new characters, the offspring, will now be in supporting roles, according to these sources, and take center stage in Episode VIII and IX. Some characters have disappeared from the Arndt script and new ones are being added,” THR reports.
Abrams and screenwriter Lawrence Kasadan are reportedly still revamping the script, adding new characters into the mix.
“The latest bit to surface this week is that Abrams and Lucasfilm are now searching for a twentysomething female actress who is either of mixed race or black. The rumor is that Obi-Wan Kenobi had a daughter or granddaughter,” THR reports.
Fans of the “Star Wars” franchise may have another chance to see Yoda on the big screen. Yoda is rumored to be a force ghost that appears to Luke during times of great disturbance amongst the Jedi.
“We're told that Yoda will have words with Luke Skywalker about a rising unbalance in the force and the need to preserve the Jedi,” Cosmic Book News reports. “There is also talk amongst production that would give a nod to the previous Jedi characters in the form of holographic pictures in the new Jedi Temple.”
“Star Wars Episode 7” is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
