The misery continues for the Philadelphia 76ers this ongoing season. Holding a 6-19 win-loss record, they are currently at the bottom of the standings in the Eastern Conference division and will continue to slide down if they don't do anything. Reports are now saying that Jahlil Okafor might be heading to the Minnesota Timberwolves and join forces with Karl-Anthony Towns.
Okafor has been one of the regular names in the rumor mills the past few months. Together with teammate Nerlens Noel, both of them was mentioned as dispensable to the 76ers since the return of Joel Embiid in their lineup. But it seems that Okafor could be the first one to go since he has more value than Noel and likely moving to the Timberwolves in the coming days.
On the other hand, the Timberwolves are also struggling to get their form as of late. They badly need an offensive player that could boost their offense and support Towns and Andrew Wiggins in that area. Rumors are now floating that a rumored trade deal between the 76ers and Timberwolves is in the works now.
According to Sportsrageous, there is a brewing talk between the Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves discussing a possible trade deal that might happen soon. Trade scenario is saying that the 76ers will send center Jahlil Okafor to the Timberwolves in exchange for guard Ricky Rubio and guard/forward Shabazz Muhammad.
The report also says that the Timberwolves are looking for a scorer for their frontcourt as Cole Aldrich, Jordan Hill, Nemanja Bjelica and Adreian Payne failed to support Towns in the offensive end. The arrival of Okafor will not only give the Timberwolves a scorer down low to pair with Towns but an added inside presence to protect the rim.
On the other hand, the 76ers could make use Rubio and Muhammad on their backcourt that is also needed. Rubio can stabilize their offense as a great passer and with great playmaking skills while Muhammad will help on the shooting guard or small forward spot.
Last July, Yibada English already floated the idea of moving Okafor to the Timberwolves and play alongside Towns. However, no confirmation has made by both teams and as history goes the deal did not happen.
Could this be the appropriate time for the Philadelphia 76ers to trade Jahlil Okafor to the Minnesota Timberwolves and join Karl-Anthony Towns in the frontcourt?
