"Gilligan's Island" actor Russell Johnson died of natural causes on Thursday, according to multiple reports.
Johnson was best know for his role of Professor Roy Hinkley in the 1960s sitcom. The Professor would always come up with plans to get the castaways off the island, but Gilligan would find a way to mess everything up.
"He died at his home in Washington, where he lived with his wife, Connie. She and their daughter, Kimberly, were at his side, said agent Mike Eisenstadt. Johnson is also survived by a stepson, Court, and a grandson," CNN reports.
ABC News confirmed with Johnson's wife, Constance, the 89-year-old actor was at home during the time of his death.
"He died at home, peaceful, in his sleep at 5:21 am today," she said. "[He was] a very brave guy who knew what he wanted, and he wanted to be at home."
In an interview for the Archive of American Television, Johnson explained he didn't expect "Gilligan's Island" to be a hit. The show was the highlight of his career, as he did not go on to many starring roles after "Gilligan's Island" ended.
However, Johnson left behind some advice for young actors trying to make it in Hollywood.
"Most of us have to really learn how to do what we do, and that takes some studying and being part of an acting group," Johnson told the Archive of American Television. "Preparation is everything, and that means studying."
Tina Louise, the actress who played Ginger on "Gilligan's Island" told CNN she was " very saddened to hear of the passing of Russell Johnson."
"My prayers and condolences go out to his wife Constance and his family," Louise told CNN. "He will always be in our hearts and remembered from Gilligan's island as part of American pop culture history. He will truly be missed."
