Xiaomi Sets Up 2nd Manufacturing Plant in India Under 'Make in India' Program

Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant after attaining a firm position in the Chinese tech market has moved down to India in order to strengthen its position by setting up a second manufacturing plant under 'Make in India' program. The company which sold around 1million Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphones in 45 days in India wants to boost its sales in coming years.

Xiaomi India Managing director Manu Kumar Jain has announced on twitter about the company's second manufacturing plant in India. Xiaomi's first manufacturing plant in India was established in August 2015 and it is reported that the 75 percent of the smartphones sold by Xiaomi in India were manufactured in this plant.

Xiaomi is one of the best Smartphone manufacturers in China is expanding aggressively and by setting a second manufacturing facility under 'Make in India' program, which is owned and operated by partner Foxconn. This unit is located in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh and is purely for Xiaomi smartphones manufacturing.

According to Business Today, Xiaomi's two plants in India has an employment up to 5000 people and about 90 percent of the jobs are employed by women. It is reported that Xiaomi will manufacture more than 95 percent smartphones selling in India will be from these two plants. The plants have a production capacity of manufacturing one phone per second.

It is also reported that Xiaomi is a number one online brand with almost 30 percent market share in the online segment. Xiaomi has acquired 10.7 percent market share in Q4 2016, climbing to the number two position as per the IDC report.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

Xiaomi sold 1 million units of Redmi Note 4 in 45 days shows the success of the company. Xioami Redmi Note 4 sports 5.5-inch full HD display and 2.5D curved glass come with Android Marshmallow OS. The phone comes with three storage variants in India- 2GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage priced at Rs. 9,999, the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage priced at Rs. 10,999, and the last 4GB RAM and 64GB storage priced at Rs. 12,999. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is available in Gold, Grey, Matte Black, and Silver color options.
