The last "Ghostbusters" movie released in 2016 and turned out to be a dud at the box office leading many to predict the demise of the franchise. However, producer Ivan Reitman is pretty hopeful about its future and hinted many details about the next "Ghostbusters" animated movie as well as live-action drama, among which the prominent detail was the 2019 release date.
The next "Ghostbusters" movie could very well release in 2019 as producer Ivan Reitman has hinted at the same. According to Den of Geek, Reitman told the media at the San Diego Comic-Con that the animated Ghostbusters movie is very much on and this time the story will be told from the point of view of the ghosts. He said that his team has amazing plans for an animated film as well as a live-action film. He sounded quite upbeat about the future of the franchise and said that the change in the story would impress the audiences.
Notably, the last "Ghostbusters" film, which was a reboot of the previous films, failed at the box office and many started saying that it was the end of the franchise. However, now that Reitman has cleared the air, fans have no reason to lose hope as 2019 would very likely see the release of the animated "Ghostbusters" movie, claimed Screen Rant.
The chances are stronger because the year also marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of "Ghostbusters" which released in 1984. Reitman said at the Comic-Con that the studio is making efforts to release the next film around the release date of the original. The producer also said that the studio is planning some great things to celebrate the thirty-fifth anniversary.
It is worth mentioning here that "Ghostbusters" began its film journey in 1984 followed by a sequel in 1989 but the third installment got delayed due to multiple reasons and lastly, the makers decided to go with a reboot in 2016 with an all-female cast.
