The Disney Channel's highly anticipated spinoff series "Girl Meets World" has been given a bit of special treatment as news came yesterday that the series has already been picked up for an additional eight episodes, giving it a full season order, before it has even secured its own premiere date.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Danielle Fishel, who will be reprising her role as Topanga in the spinoff to ABC's 90s classic Boy Meets World, announced the news earlier this week saying that the comedy's 13-episode order has been extended with an additional eight.
"Got the great news tonight that #GirlMeetsWorld was picked up for 8 more episodes - a total of 21! Can't wait for everyone to see them all," she announced via her Twitter account.
Back in June, Disney Channel picked up Girl Meets World in order to make a show that picks up where its predecessor left off. It focuses on Cory and Topanga's young daughter, Riley Matthews. Ben Savage, who played Cory, along with Fishel will reprise thee roles that they played as children and adults from 1993-2000 on ABC. Their involvement marks a reunion with the both show's creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs.
The role of Riley will be played by Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter will play her best friend. Other Boy Meets World alum William Daniels has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Mr. Feeny for at least the first episode.
Girl Meets World will be set in New York City, as opposed to Philadelphia like Boy Meets World, and will follow Riley and her best friend Maya as they navigate their way through the trials and tribulations that make up the seventh grade. Cory will play a familiar role as the mentor/teacher as his character is now the history teacher at the school and his wife, Topanga, now owns an afterschool hangout place that the girls frequent.
