Samsung's Next Smartphone is With Windows Phone 8.1 For Verizon; Calls It ‘Huron’

Samsung is reportedly teaming up with Microsoft to bring the next Windows Phone 8.1 powered smartphone to the United States through the Verizon Wireless.

What happens when three giant organizations form an alliance? Samsung, the world leader in smartphone making, has reportedly teamed up with the software giant Microsoft, to introduce the first Windows Phone 8.1-powered Samsung smartphone to the United States through Verizon, the nation's largest wireless carrier. The rumored device is codenamed "Huron" and takes the Galaxy avatar.

Samsung's collaboration with Microsoft for a Windows-powered smartphone is not new, as the world leaders introduced their first collaborative work through Samsung ATIV Odyssey in January last year, alongside the Nokia Lumia 822, also through Verizon. The Windows Phone is widely known for the popular Nokia Lumia lineup that exclusively used the mobile OS to power up various smartphones.

Microsoft, on the other hand, it was widely speculated, asked other OEMs including Samsung, Huawei, and HTC to add Windows Phone OS on its Android lineup as an alternate option for users.

The first press render of the Samsung Huron, also known as Samsung SM-W750V, was leaked by the popular tipster, @evleaks. Along with the leaked photo, the mobile tipster revealed that the phone will arrive only on Verizon's network giving WP8 users a reason to choose something beyond the Lumia.

Based on the picture and several other leaks of user agent profile links, the Samsung Huron will reportedly feature a 5-inch or 4.3-inch 1080p screen and will support LTE bands.

The news of Samsung's WP8-based smartphone adds up to the rumors of the tech giant working on a Tizen-based smartphone. It is also widely speculated that the tech giant will unveil its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month. It may be possible that Samsung will disclose some information about its future with Windows Phone OS and Tizen OS at the event.
