'Ant-Man' Movie Cast News: Evangeline Lilly Up For Role Of Paul Rudd's Love Interest, The Wasp?

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” production seems to be in full swing as new casting rumors reveal Evangeline Lilly is up for a role in the film.

Variety reports “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” actress was approached to take on the “female lead,” but did not specify what her role would be. Lilly could be playing Hank Pym’s daughter or Ant-Man’s wife, Wasp.

“Pym didn’t have a daughter in the comics, but Cornish and Wright could certainly have switched things up in their version by giving him one,” Variety reports.

Lilly joins Bryce Dallas Howard and Rashida Jones as rumored love interests for Ant-Man. According to Cinema Blend, both Howard and Jones were reportedly being considered to star in the film. Jones has worked with “Ant-Man” star Paul Rudd on numerous projects, including “I Love You, Man” and “Our Idiot Brother”, so the chemistry is there.

The casting news should be released soon as production is set to begin this April. Marvel has yet to confirm if Lilly will star in the film. “Ant-Man” stars Rudd as the title character and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym.

Rudd’s official casting announcement came on Dec. 20, 2013. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige released the following statement about Rudd taking on the role of Ant-Man.

"When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we'd found the right guy. We couldn't be more excited for our audiences to see what he's going to do to bring Ant-Man to life."

“Ant-Man” will be released to theaters on July 17, 2015.
