'Batman vs. Superman' (Man of Steel 2) Update: Director Zack Snyder Defends Ben Affleck Casting Decision: 'He Has The Experience'

"Batman vs. Superman" director Zack Snyder has rarely spoken about the production, but will continue to reiterate that Ben Affleck is the right choice for the Caped Crusader.

The director briefly spoke about the "Man of Steel 2" production to a French magazine called Popcorn (via ComicBookTherapy.com). When asked what the "Argo" actor Ben Affleck will bring to the film, Snyder said:

"Ben brings an interesting counterweight to the performance of Henry in the role of Superman...He has the experience necessary to paint the picture of an older and more advised man than Clark Kent, who bears the scars of a seasoned vigilante while retaining the charm that Bruce Wayne deploys when present in the world."

The filmmaker also added "The Dark Knight" will influence the film, but it is not a continuation of the story. "The comic book will influence the history of Batman Vs. Superman, on which the writer David S. Goyer and myself will work," Snyder explained.

Producer Michael Uslan also defended signing Affleck to join the "Man of Steel 2" cast in an interview with E Daily.

"A number of years go by, and then all of a sudden the torches and the pitchforks go up, 'oh my god, the guy that played the gay cowboy is going to be The Joker? They're going to destroy the greatest super villain in history," Uslan told E Daily. "And then after Heath Ledger's performance, when they actually went to see it, nobody ever wanted The Joker played by another actor again. So here we are, with an academy award winning filmmaker.

"You look at his last bunch of movies, Hollywoodland he had me convinced he was George Reeves," Uslan added. "The Town, Argo, just really, really great quality of work. Again, I'll go back to what Tim said in the beginning, it's all about Bruce Wayne, and when you focus on it, Bruce Wayne, maybe in his mid-forties, what's he going to be feeling? What's he going to be thinking? What does he have on his plate to deal with? I just couldn't be more excited about it."

"Batman vs. Superman" will be released to theaters on May 6, 2016.
