The "council tax" on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's opulent American property is exorbitant. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex might owe more than $139,000 in taxes for the previous year.

The fee will be split into two equal installments for the pair. The sum is about double what property experts projected for their Montecito house.

According to a source, the amount is substantial, but it is little in comparison to their revenues. However, it's worth noting that the pair has yet to pay the first amount, which was due on December 10, and the second installment is due on February 1. Per Geo News, there will be a 10% penalty if any of the invoices are not paid by April 11, according to the claim.

According to documents obtained by the Sunday Mirror, the Santa Barbara County levy for 2021-22 was paid in two installments totaling £51,978 ($69,731). The price is based on the valuation of the property in exclusive Montecito, which is more than double what analysts predicted.

The pair, who left their royal responsibilities to relocate to the United States, purchased the nine-bedroom, 13-bathroom mansion in June 2020 for roughly £11.5 ($15.53) million, with a mortgage of £7.4 ($9.93) million. A decade ago, Russian investor Sergey Grishin spent £17 ($22.81) million for the property.

According to local experts, the Tuscan-style property, completed in 2003 and located 80 miles north of Los Angeles, is currently worth £19.4 ($26.03) million. It has a library, a gym, a movie room, a spa, a pool, a tennis court, a guest house, and a playground for Archie, two, and Lilibet, eight months.

However, it was reported last month that the Sussexes, who have £118 ($158.30) million in Netflix and Spotify partnerships, were seeking to sell. Now that Prince Harry, 37, is a US resident, he will have to pay a large income tax bill in April. His team was contacted for a response.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Win President's Award

Recently, after publishing a statement declaring they "stand with the people of Ukraine" and condemning Vladimir Putin's invasion, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been ridiculed on social media.

Twitter users slammed the pair following the brief remark, suggesting that Putin must be "shivering in his boots," as per Yahoo. Many others, on the other hand, pointed out that the rest of the royal family has kept silent on the issue because it is "too political for the royals," whereas Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have at least spoken out and expressed their support.

On Saturday, the President's Award was given to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Before speaking about individuals in Ukraine affected by the continuing Russian assault, he expressed thanks to the NAACP for accepting him into their community.

Both spoke about how the NAACP-Archewell Digital Civil Rights Award has inspired the next generation of activists. It's a new award that recognizes leaders who are working to enhance civil and human rights via social justice and technology, according to USA Today.
