The import of Russian oil, according to Rep. Greg Murphy (R-N.C.), is a mistake, and President Joe Biden is blunting sanctions supposed to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Ukraine and the strains of the invasion called a special operation by the Kremlin are fueled by US dependence. One way to stop the invasion is to stop funding the conflict, which even democrats are joining the bandwagon.
Sanctions Have Not Deterred Putin
Since the start of the conflict, the sanctions have been in place to stop the Kremlin's advance, but it's fallen short. The White House is not for the stoppage of buying energy from its adversary. Unfortunately, the US energy independence tops at $75 million a day for imported oil and gas, reported the Epoch Times.
In an interview with NTD on March 2, Murphy expressed these sentiments over how Biden could allow such things to happen, saying that it is horrible and very disastrous that the administration still buys these energy supplies. The Americans are actually funding the Russian war effort through this.
The US placed strong sanctions to deter Putin and protect American families and businesses from inflationary prices, according to Biden.
However, the government will still deal with Russia for its energy needs. The sanction package will still permit buying from outside sources, announced on February 24, according to the White House official website.
Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that in 2021, the deliveries of oil and gas were 20.4 million barrels per month, which would equate to about 680,000 barrels per day to import Russian oil are needed for normalcy.
Both Republicans and Democrats have joined calls for energy sanctions against Russia and the White House to stop procuring imported oil.
Calls To Stop Oil Imports
Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), and Jon Tester (D-Mont.) sponsored a proposal last March 3 to stop importing the energy supplies. A Lower House version went to the floor, sponsored by Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.).
Manchin was enraged at the double face policy of the Biden administration for sabotaging oil production in America for alternative energy sources instead of allowing foreign countries to provide oil.
The president ordered a halt to the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, which led to today's problems, and called no permit for oil and natural gas producers on government-owned lands.
Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) backs up banning the importation of energy from Russia, as she told everyone in a Thursday weekly news conference.
But the White House last Thursday was not of the same sentiment. White House press secretary Jen Psaki stated that there would be no cutting of buying Russian oil supplies. Many disagreed with the decision and would be more dissatisfied with the president on all areas of policies.
Psaki states that our goal and the governments were to have the most significant impact on President Putin and Russia while having the least effect on us and our allies. A tragic consequence of banning Russian sourced oil will make gas prices skyrocket more.
