UFC Star Connor McGregor has been arrested and charged by Irish police for dangerous driving.
Various media reports indicated that the 33-year-old mixed martial artist was detained in Dublin on Tuesday night for driving dangerously. Mc Gregor was driving his Bentley Continental GT, valued at around $200,000, traveling along the N4 between Lucan and Palmerstown when he caught the attention of the garda.
He was pulled over by the police and arrested for road traffic offenses. It is believed that the luxury vehicle was also seized from him but returned to him eventually.
McGregor, who's still recovering from a leg injury, was taken to Lucan police station, where he has since been charged with dangerous driving but released on bail. As per Give Me Sport report, the Irish MMA fighter is scheduled to appear at Blanchardstown district court in April.
According to a statement from McGregor's camp, the UFC fighter was driving to the gym by the time the garda stopped him for "alleged road traffic violations."He passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station," the statement added.
The former featherweight and lightweight UFC champ face a penalty of a fine of more than $6,000 or six-month imprisonment, or possibly both.
Five years ago, he appeared in the same court for a speeding fine of more than $527.
Caught On Cam
TMZ had obtained a video of the incident when Irish police pulled over Conor McGregor for traffic violations. The video was posted on one of his fan groups moments before the MMA fighter was arrested.
In the video, McGregor was seen driving his expensive convertible racing with another car on the highway. Moments later, there were sirens from the police mobile chasing his car.
Conor's speed at the time of the video is unknown; the two cars in the lanes adjacent to him are traveling at the same speed. Despite this, McGregor appears unconcerned with the police arresting him.
While at the station, McGregor was administered drug and alcohol tests, which he passed, according to his rep.
Conor's been spending time in Ireland over the last few weeks and has been seen around Dublin in his drop-top Bentley.
McGregor's MMA Future
Since breaking his leg in a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last July, McGregor's competitive future was in question. Last month, however, he declared at Bellator 275 he was "nearly back" and hoping for a comeback to the UFC Octagon this summer.
Despite losing three of his last four fights, the 33-year-old fighter is optimistic of landing another championship opportunity in his current return, with McGregor eyeing a move to welterweight to face Usman and attempt to become the first triple-weight world champion, according to Sky Sports.
In an interview with the media company, current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman responds to Conor McGregor's callout for a title fight, saying that the statements of the Irish fighter are not valid to him.
"I don't take anything that he says seriously because I understand he's just a clout chaser. He's just looking for clout," Usman said.
