Best Buy Air Fryers Burn and Melt Leading to Injury, Property Damage; Recall Issued

More than 600,000 air fryers and air fryer ovens are being recalled by Best Buy due to concerns that they may overheat, creating a fire and burn danger.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall comes after Best Buy received more than 100 reports of the devices catching fire or melting in North America. Two persons were hurt, one of them was a toddler.

Best Buy Recalls Thousands of Air Fryers, Air Fryer Ovens

Best Buy said in a notice submitted by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday that it has received complaints from 68 US citizens and 36 Canadians about the fryers and ovens overheating. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is a federal agency that regulates consumer products. According to the merchant, there have been two injuries, one involving a child's leg, and seven claims of minor property damage.

Stop using the recalled air fryers and air fryer ovens and return them to Best Buy for a refund in the form of a Best Buy credit. Customers will get a $50 shop credit, or if the amount on the purchase receipt is higher, the amount on the purchase receipt. The merchant indicated that no receipt is required to receive the $50 credit, as per CBS News.

Each device has the Insignia brand name on the top or front, as well as a rating label on the bottom that identifies the brand and model number. The recalled fryers were sold online at Best Buy shops from November 2018 to February 2022 for between $30 and $150.

They were manufactured in China and imported by Richfield, Minnesota-based Best Buy. Best Buy claims to have sold 635,000 recalled items in the United States and another 137,000 in Canada.

The air fryer recall affects Insignia models NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, NS-AF55DBK9, NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1 sold at Best Buy, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Per ABC7 Chicago, each device has the Insignia brand name on the top or front. The brand Insignia and the model number are identified by a rating sticker on the underside of each device. Consumers should cease using the recalled air fryers immediately and return them to Best Buy for a refund in the form of store credit, according to the CSPC.

Babyganics Issues Voluntary Recall

Meanwhile, due to the presence of the bacteria Pluralibacter gergoviae, Babyganics has issued a voluntary recall for some of their bubble baths, Hawaii News Now reported. According to the FDA, the bacteria doesn't usually make healthy people sick, but it can infect those who are immunocompromised or have cracked or irritated skin, such as those who have diaper rash.

According to the FDA, infants may be more vulnerable than adults. At this point, no illnesses have been recorded in connection with the voluntary recall, according to Babyganics.

Babyganics 20-ounce chamomile verbena bubble bath, UPC 8 13277 01375 4, with lot codes Y314 and Y315, found at the bottom of the packaging and housed in a white plastic container with a green plastic top are among the products included in the recall. Anyone who has purchased a product from Babyganics will receive a complete refund.
