However, when a young Prince William refuses to come home after swinging with his younger brother and hides behind some greenery, Diana teases him: "Alright! "Then Harry will have all the fun."

As stated in a new book, Princess Diana grew to rely greatly on Prince William in her final years, referring to him as "the man in my life." In an excerpt from his book "William at 40: The Making of a Modern Monarch," royal biographer Robert Jobson looks at the relationship between the young prince and his mother before her terrible death in 1997 when he was just 15 years old.

Jobson claims that Diana began to refer to William as "the guy in my life" and that the prince was emotionally involved in his parents' divorce. When Prince Charles and Diana divorced in 1996, following four years of separation, it was decided that Diana would lose her HRH (Her Royal Highness) title as part of the legal process.

This meant Diana would no longer be known as Princess of Wales, like the other female members of the royal family, but rather as Diana, until she remarried.

Though sources differ on whether Diana voluntarily gave up her HRH designation, Jobson says that the choice had a great impact on a young William.

Book: Prince William Thinks About Prince Harry's Mental Health

Tina Brown, an author and editor, has highlighted William's emotional engagement in his mother's personal and public struggles. Brown examines how Diana's reliance on William influenced their relationship, as well as that of William and his brother Prince Harry, in an excerpt from her new book 'The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor-The Truth and Turmoil,' released online by Vanity Fair, as per Newsweek via MSN.

The book, which is now available, focuses on William's misgivings when Harry, 37, began dating Meghan Markle, 40, in July 2016. According to the book, the Duke of Cambridge was nervous about the pace of Harry and Meghan's relationship immediately away.

Even when William had a wonderful introduction to the former Suits actress over tea at his Kensington Palace apartment, which his wife Kate Middleton was unable to attend, it didn't change things.

William allegedly knew that Meghan's status as a half-Black would create a media circus in the United Kingdom, and he feared that Harry's mental fragility, as described in the book, wouldn't be strong enough to handle it, on top of Harry's mental health issues stemming primarily from their mother Princess Diana's tragic death.

It's no secret that William and Harry's relationship has been tumultuous since they were children. William supposedly exhibited indications of being a brat in front of his family, including Queen Elizabeth, when he reminded everyone that he was a future king as a child. Harry, who is two years younger than William, purportedly gained a sense of "freedom" as a result of William's antics as a youngster, and Diana allegedly referred to her oldest son as "my mini-tornado," according to Hollywood Life.
