President Joe Biden's nominee to chair the Department of Homeland Security's Big Brother-style Disinformation Governance Board has a history of spreading false information online.
Nina Jankowicz, a Wilson Center misinformation fellow, has questioned The Post's findings on Hunter Biden's laptop on many occasions.
President Joe Biden's New Disinformation Czar Get Flagged
Jankowicz mentioned the laptop in a series of live tweets during the presidential debate between Biden and Trump in October 2020. Her post reappeared shortly after she was designated as executive head of the new disinformation bureau on Wednesday, prompting conservatives to call her a leftist radical and question her capacity to recognize fake news.
Jankowicz attempted to dismiss the backlash over her old laptop tweet. However, a Russian disinformation specialist indicated just a week ago that the laptop did not belong to Hunter and that there were several red flags indicating emails found on the computer were legitimate.
Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin attacked Jankowicz as a beacon of disinformation for dismissing the laptop, accusing her of furthering the false media narrative with her tweets.
Jankowicz has already lauded Christopher Steele, the author of the bogus Trump-bashing dossier, NewYork Post reported. While speaking to lawmakers on Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas did not reveal any powers that would be handed to the dystopian-sounding board.
He said the board will seek to combat misinformation ahead of the November midterm elections, especially in Hispanic communities. The new board, according to Mayokras, would be focused on preventing the spread of disinformation in minority groups, particularly election misinformation ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.
He went on to say that it will concentrate on the most recent wave of disinformation aimed at Spanish-speaking voters. No more information on the specific falsehoods being used against these groups was provided,
"A HUGE emphasis of our work, and indeed, one of the primary reasons the Board was founded, is to preserve the Department's commitment (sic) to defending free speech, privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties," she said, as per Daily Mail.
