The Families First Coronavirus Response Act permitted emergency allotments to help SNAP families meet temporary food needs during the pandemic, according to the US Department of Agriculture. The maximum benefit for the household size is subtracted from the EA amount.

All SNAP households who receive less than the maximum benefit can obtain emergency allotments from state SNAP organizations on a month-to-month basis. Households on or near the maximum SNAP benefit, on the other hand, receive little or no additional assistance.

States That Provide SNAP Benefits Until May 31, 2022

States may opt to continue providing monthly emergency allotments as long as a national public health emergency, or PHE, is in effect, and the state has declared an emergency at the state level.

Secretary Xavier Becerra of the US Department of Health and Human Services has prolonged the COVID-19 federal public health emergency through April 16. A PHE declaration is valid for 90 days or until the secretary announces that the PHE is no longer valid. On July 15, the existing PHE will expire. Through the end of May 2022, the USDA has granted exemptions to the following states:

  • The District of Columbia
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • North Carolina
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Wisconsin

In places where these benefits are available, all households will receive emergency allotments of at least $95. Households getting $95 or more will receive the same amount in the future. Supplemental EA SNAP funds will be provided in the form of state EBT cards, which may be used to buy qualifying foods at designated outlets, according to Go Banking Rates.

Here's a quick method to see if you're affected:

  • My family gets the maximum SNAP benefit for our size (see chart below): you'll get an extra $95 per month in emergency SNAP payments.
  • My household does not receive the maximum amount for our size, but we receive less than $95 in extra SNAP payments each month: You will receive $95 in extra emergency SNAP payments each month.

The additional SNAP payment for May 2022 will arrive on or around May 3rd.

Every month since March 2020, the federal government has approved emergency allotments. SNAP beneficiaries will benefit from this extra help during the COVID-19 outbreak. Oregon can provide these emergency benefits as a temporary remedy due to the federal COVID-19 public health emergency.

The federal government has granted emergency allotments every month since March 2020, providing additional support to SNAP users throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the federal COVID-19 public health emergency, Oregon can grant these emergency benefits as a temporary solution.

How To Get Extra Payments in SNAP Benefits?

Current SNAP recipients will get emergency allotments on May 11. On May 28 or June 2, households that did not get benefits in the first monthly issue would receive emergency allotments.
