On Wednesday, Amber Heard, an actress defending herself against a defamation case filed by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, testified, detailing how a passionate relationship that began on a movie set devolved into a pattern of violence perpetrated against her by the actor.
Amber Heard testified that the couple met on the set of 'The Rum Diary,' a film that Depp produced and starred in, in 2009, and that they fell in love during the film's publicity tour. Despite her protestations, she claims Depp began accusing her of adultery in 2012, and his rage would sometimes escalate into violent attacks.
Amber Heard Testifies Against Johnny Depp
Amber Heard recalled Johnny Depp punching walls near her head, shoving her to the ground, and repeatedly slapping her.
Amber Heard became tearful many times during her testimony as she described the physical confrontations in vivid detail. She appeared chagrined at points as she explained why she stayed in the relationship despite her reservations.
Johnny Depp denied ever striking Amber Heard or any other woman during four days of testimony in Fairfax County Circuit Court earlier in the trial. He accused her of being the aggressor in the relationship, claiming she struck him and hurled things at him on several occasions.
Amber Heard, on the other hand, has denied ever assaulting Jonny Depp, save in self-defense or to defend her sister, and she has given a different narrative of their relationship, which ended in divorce in 2017. According to her, Depp was prone to jealous anger, especially when he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Once in 2013, Heard recalled, Depp accused her of an affair and then slapped her with the back of his hand, on which he wore rings.
Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, in which she defined herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse."
Heard, 36, countersued Depp, 58, alleging that he publicly humiliated her when his previous lawyer made remarks claiming that her abuse accusations were false, according to New York Times.

Amber Heard detailed her early beginnings and her initial meetings with the charismatic Johnny Depp on the set of the 2011 film 'The Rum Diary in Puerto Rico during several hours of court evidence in Virginia on Wednesday. Several years later, the two met on a press tour for the film, during which Ms. Heard said they fell in love.
Ms. Heard attempted to depict Mr. Depp as a loving and gentle person who, when under the influence of drink or narcotics, would fly into rages - sometimes over imagined infidelity. She said he tried to hide his substance misuse, which included anything from drinking alcoholic beverages to using large amounts of cocaine, BBC reported.
Amber Heard also told the court that she and his daughter Lily-Rose had fled Johnny Depp's private island after the star furiously informed her that he could kill her after a violent dispute.
In the couple's multi-million dollar defamation trial, Heard testified that she joined Depp and his children to the Bahamas in July 2013 for a final excursion on his boat before he sold it to JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter.
However, she said that Depp became enraged when his daughter began questioning Amber Heard about her father's drinking while on vacation and hiding booze in coffee cups.
Johnny Depp testified that his daughter, the eldest of his two daughters with Vanessa Paradis, did not attend his 2015 wedding to Heard, as per Independent.
