France claims no part in asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to accept Russian conditions in the peace talks that are in progress.
French President Emmanuel Macron has said no such exchange has occurred in their conversations. France has kept out sending arms and men as other EU nations and has been attacked by Kyiv for not pulling its industries out of Russia.
Zelensky Claims Macron Urged Ukraine To Give Up Sovereignty
In contrast to the Ukrainian leader's statements, Macron has not asked Zelensky such a consideration making territorial concessions to resolve the ongoing war with Russia, according to the Elysee, reported RT.
Last Thursday, in an interview with Italian broadcaster Rai 1, the Ukrainian leader alleged that Macron told him to look for a way to end the fighting in Ukraine. The French leader wants a diplomatic way out of the unfortunate conflict, cited France 24.
"Proposing to us to give up something of our sovereignty to save Putin's face doesn't seem right coming from some leaders, remarked Zelensky. It is a waste of time," he added.
This is his response to Macron's request for diplomacy over the allegedly reckless militaristic choices to stalemate the Kremlin on the battlefield.
On Friday, Paris disputed those claims, asserting that Elysee asked Zelensky for compromises. It has been stated repeatedly that the Ukrainians must ascertain the terms of their bargaining with the Russians.
It was stressed that the president of the republic would not interfere, as the Ukraine leader asserted.
Macron Maintains Link With Putin
Macron is one of the few Western leaders who has maintained direct contact with Putin despite the ongoing conflict. He has insisted on tougher sanctions against Moscow, including stricter Russian energy regulations, and has allowed arms shipments to Kyiv, noted Al Jazeera.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said diplomatic efforts between Russia and Ukraine have now been de facto postponed by Kyiv.
Last Saturday, he made the remarks during a phone call with his Finnish counterpart, Sauli Niinisto, as mentioned in RFERL.
The discussion centered on Finland's renewed push for NATO membership in the aftermath of the Situation in Ukraine. Niinisto told Putin, as remarked by the Finnish president's office that his country would make decisions on joining the US-led military alliance within days.
Putin expressed his evaluation of the negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegates, which have been de facto, canceled by Kyiv, have shown no desire to participate in a serious and meaningful conversation, according to a Moscow statement.
Following Ukraine's failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, first signed in 2014, and Moscow's eventual acknowledgment of the Donbas republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, Russia ordered an offensive on the neighboring country in late February.
The protocols brokered by Germany and France aimed to grant special status to the breakaway regions inside Ukraine.
Since then, the Kremlin has insisted that Kyiv declare itself a neutral country that would never join the NATO military coalition led by the United States.
Kyiv asserts the Russian offensive was unprovoked and debunks claims that it planned to retake the two republics militarily. Paris says that Zelensky seems to be alleging that Macron is encouraging a concession to be made that was false.
