Former United States President Donald Trump benefits as Joe Biden's disapproval soars, leaving many American voters leaning towards supporting a potential presidential bid from the Republican businessman.

The Democrat's unpopularity is a result of many factors, including rising inflation and fears of recession. The recent survey shows that out of 1,541 adults in the U.S., more voters would cast their ballots for Trump. 44%, rather than Biden, 42%.

Biden's Disapproval Rating

The situation comes even as the House Select Committee which is investigating the events of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot, has spent the last week linking Trump to what it called a "seditious conspiracy" to overturn the 2020 election. The committee is laying the groundwork for possible criminal prosecution of the former president.

Since the time that Biden took office, no previous poll made by Yahoo News/YouGov has shown him trailing Trump. This comes even though Biden's most recent leads have been within the margin of error, similar to how this one is for Trump.

A year ago, Biden led Trump by nine percentage points and when he won in 2020, the Democrat won the White House by more than seven million votes. However, his job approval rating has continued to atrophy for much of the last year, as per Yahoo News.

The new survey now shows that Biden's disapproval has never been stronger with a full 56% of Americans now discontent with his performance. This is the highest share to date, with only 39% approving of what he has done for the country. It comes as three weeks ago, the numbers were 53% and 42% respectively.

On average, the president's job approval scores are now a few points worse than Trump's were at the parallel stage of his presidency. Among U.S. citizens, Trump (43%) now has a higher personal favorability rating than Biden (40%). This also comes as among independents, nearly two-thirds, specifically 64%, find Biden's performance unsatisfactory, with only 28% saying they would vote for the Democrat over Trump.

Voting Trump Over Biden

According to The Hill, Biden has hit below 40% approval rating in a few other recent polls, including a Reuters-Ipsos poll that was published this week and a Morning Consult poll published last week. All of these surveys show an all-time low at the time that the polls were conducted.

Recent circumstances also showed that Biden's approval rating dropped for its third straight week this week, which points to a tough month for the president, who is already facing difficulty with rising prices.

In an interview on Thursday, Biden addressed the sour mood of the public amid high inflation and rising prices amid the Federal Reserve's decision to rate interest rates. He noted that people were "really down" and said that the need for mental health in the U.S. has skyrocketed.

Democratic pollster Chris Anderson commented on the situation and said that this was a very tight spot for the president. He said, "If he moves to stabilize his ratings on the left, it could easily lead to more erosion in the middle and hurt his reelection prospects. But if he doesn't address his problems on the left, his ratings could really crater," Fox News reported.
