Volodymyr Zelensky, though given membership status in the European Union, will be subject to more factors. Brussels worries about how its economy would survive, and supporting Kyiv would be expensive. According to bloc leaders, even if the Ukrainian leader has reached step one, there will be a long way to go.

Ukraine's Struggle To Join EU

Joining the bloc is not easy for Ukraine, and steps should be satisfied before any positive action is taken. With the conflict with Russia raging, its economic outlook would be badly affected, reported the Express UK.

Emmanuel Dupuy, President of the Institute of Prospective and Security in Europe (IPSE), added that joining is not only political will. It includes administrative, justice, and abiding by bloc rules that have not been satisfied. He added that Ukraine will be one of the least prosperous EU economies when it becomes a member in a decade or now. The country will be a huge burden, but that will not be acceptable.

The World Bank (WB) states that Kyiv's economy can lessen by 45.1 percent this year. A warning from the WB Vice-president for Europe and Central Asia region said Russia's invasion is destroying the economy and infrastructure. How long the war will go on and how intense, with no signs of stopping.

Although some European Union heads pledging to rebuild Ukraine, costing $600 billion, revealed President Volodymyr Zelensky to the Wall Street Journal's CEO Council Summit in London, even Viktor Orban supported the candidacy bid.

He spoke to the Ukrainian leader with the idea that no veto would be used to fast-track candidacy. There is a need to add countless bloc rules to the legislation.

Dupuy adds 300 pages of laws, including the rule of law, anti-corruption, equality among sexes, and no slavery should be complied with, cited The World News.

The Community acquis has these rules, which sum up the EU law, with 31 chapters on the free movement of goods to how to compete in the union.

IPSE chief called it time-consuming that Serbia, Albania, and Montenegro had applied for EU membership a decade ago. Yet they don't fully satisfy Community acquis yet and mentioned Ukrainian corruption that must be fixed before becoming a bloc member.

Standards To Be Part of the EU

One example of expecting too much is a viral clip of Zelensky talking about bloc membership in a comic skit. In the satirical program 'Servant of the People,' the ex-actor jumps up for joy when a false Ms. Merkel says his country is already a member. However, he is told there has been a mistake, and it was supposed to be another country that was a downer, noted USA Daily Express. That could be the case now as well.

It is clear that Kyiv needs to negotiate to stop the fighting, or it cannot be part of the EU. One question is whether Ukraine can satisfy EU candidacy while in conflict or trying to keep intact with the Russian pounding. Another is that the country could have the administrative and financial ability to rebuild and adopt EU standards as needed. That is not easy said, Dupuy.

Zelensky needs to comply within a decade with what the European Union needs, or it will never become a member.
