Prince Harry has come under fire for "virtue-signaling" after again entering US politics during his remarks at a UN General Assembly informal gathering.
The Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, which returned control of abortion to individual states last month, was the target of a thinly disguised assault from the Duke of Sussex, who was joined by Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry Challenges World Leaders
The 37-year-old asserted that it was a component of a "global attack on democracy and freedom" and included the barbaric Russian invasion of Ukraine as one of the world's issues. The remarks, which were made Monday morning at the United Nations in honor of Nelson Mandela Day, were the most recent attack on US lawmakers.
It comes after his wife Meghan Markle said that the Duke had a "gutteral" response to the shocking Roe v Wade decision by the Supreme Court last month. Another group of protesters gathered in front of the UN General Assembly in New York, one of them was holding a sign that said, "Why are they here?"
Daily Mail reports that, prior to Prince Harry's speech to delegates at the two-hour conference at the UN, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrived hand-in-hand. Since traveling to the UK to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last month, when they maintained a low profile, this is the first time the couple has been spotted in public.
Although the occasion was intended to honor Nelson Mandela Day, the Prince attacked American politics in his keynote address. Robert Jobson, a royal biographer, also criticized Prince Harry, claiming that when he made his remarks, he "knew it would raise problems."
Meghan Markle's Political Ambitions
His statements on politics come as rumors about Meghan Markle's ambitions for the presidency continue to circulate as she frequently makes headlines as a political activist. Meghan Markle has teamed up with Gloria Steinem to pass the Equal Rights Amendment and has stated that she is prepared to participate in a protest in Washington, DC, against the Roe v Wade abortion decision.
Prince Harry discussed the perils of climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, "weaponizing lies and disinformation," the war in Ukraine, and US abortion regulations in support of his wife's political interests. The duke also discussed how he "sought solace" in Africa after the passing of his mother, Prince Diana, Princess of Wales, and their meeting in March 1997. The duke urged international leaders to "lead" despite opposition from strong interests when speaking about problems in Africa, according to The Sun.
When a US reporter inquired about the latest book by author Tom Bower, 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors,' Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived for the UN event smiling and holding hands. Prince Harry remarked on Princess Diana: "A picture of my mother and Mandela meeting in Cape Town in 1997 is on my wall and is always in my heart."
Prince Harry made an increasingly rare appearance on the international stage on Monday when he gave the keynote address. Per CBS News, he spoke extensively on the effects of climate change and the fight against hunger across the world, and he cited his mother's attempts to overcome the repulsive legacy of racial discrimination.
The two-hour session on Monday, according to the UN Mission of South Africa, was about Mandela's legacy as well as racial intolerance, the widening gap between the affluent and the poor, poverty, and food insecurity. Mandela, in his opinion, is a "giant of our time" and a "moral compass" for the future.
