A complaint was submitted on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court accusing comedians Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears of sexually assaulting minors.
The lawsuit was brought on behalf of anonymous plaintiffs Jane Doe and John Doe, the latter of whom is still a minor.
Siblings File Lawsuit Against Tiffany Haddish, Aries Spears
It claims that Haddish and Spears harassed and abused Jane while she was 14 years old and attending a comedy camp in 2013, and that John was abused while he was 7 years old and filming a sketch in 2014.
John, her younger brother, was born in 2007; and Jane, who is now 22 years old, is John's legal guardian. They were introduced to Haddish as a family friend by their mother, whom the paper claims was "suicidal for trusting Haddish with her children" after learning about the alleged occurrences after they had already occurred.
Teenage Jane participated in a comedy camp in the summer of 2013 where Haddish was a guest speaker. After showing Jane a video of two people fighting over a sandwich that they then started to eat simultaneously "in a manner that simulated the act of fellatio," Haddish allegedly told Jane she had a role for her in a comedy skit and instructed Jane on how to mimic the actions and sounds she had seen, as per The Washington Post.
A year later, Haddish allegedly took the kids to Spears' house to record John for a video skit that would, in her opinion, help him land a gig on Nickelodeon. The document includes stills from the footage, which at times focused on John's body, and claims that Haddish separated the siblings and that she and Spears stripped John down to his underwear to film a video titled 'Through A Pedophiles Eyes,' which showed "Spears lusting over the 7-year-old child and molesting him throughout."
Tiffany Haddish, Aries Spears Deny Accusations
Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears are disputing the allegations of child sex abuse made in a lawsuit that was filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday. "He isn't going to fall for any shakedown," Spears' attorney reportedly said.
The filing claims that in one alleged video the two children were given instructions by Haddish to start "moaning and making sexual noises as they both ate [a] sandwich [from opposite ends] in a manner that simulated the act of fellatio." The plaintiff met Haddish through her mother, who knew the comedian from stand-up comedy; she and her brother called her "Auntie Tiff."
The lawsuit also stated that despite the fact that the video was purportedly posted on 'Funny or Die' Spears informed the children's mother that it had been deleted after she requested to see it. According to the filing, the mother was unaware of the video's subject matter.
Haddish is also accused with fiduciary responsibility violations, negligent supervision/failure to warn, constructive fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The pair is also accused of sexual violence, gross negligence, sexual harassment, and sexual abuse of a child.
The complaint claims that the alleged assault left the kids "traumatized for life" and gave them melancholy and anxiety problems. Additionally, it claims that Jane Doe, 22, has never been with a man because of her alleged trauma, Fox News reported.
"'Funny Or Die' regarded the video absolutely disgusting and would never make such content. This video's concept, creation, financing, or production was not a part of our efforts. It was posted to the website as user-generated content and deleted in 2018 as soon as it was discovered," a representative for the comedy video company said to The Daily Beast. 'Funny Or Die' has hosted a number of prominent guests over the years, including Haddish and Spears.
