After accepting a sweetheart plea deal in a rape case involving his adolescent relative because Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg refused to put him in jail, a man from New York proceeded on a binge of sexual offenses.
Although the charge carries a possible penalty of 16 months to four years in prison, Justin Washington, 25, was given a reduced 30-day sentence and five years of probation after pleading guilty to compulsion in his Manhattan rape case in August.
New York Man Attacks 5 People After Plea Deal
Washington allegedly sexually assaulted a young relative as they were watching television, according to authorities. In the final days of his freedom, a week before Washington was scheduled to receive a sentence for that offense, he went on a horrible spree of sexual attacks on four women and one male.
Charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, and forcible touching were initially brought against him in February; however, they were eventually reduced to third-degree rape. Washington was released from jail on a $12,000 bond after prosecutors decided they lacked sufficient evidence, according to the New York Post.
At 8:20 in the morning, Washington crept up on an 18-year-old man, placed his hands in his underwear, grasped his buttocks, and demanded, "Can I get a dollar, bro?" Washington declined the victim's offer of dollar cash and then said, "Never mind, you're not understanding," before escaping through the window.
Less than an hour later, Washington allegedly climbed the fire escape of an apartment building and started knocking on the window of a 26-year-old woman's flat, who was at the time living there with her nine-month-old child. She was horrified to see Washington masturbating on the fire escape when she pulled back her curtains. He entered another woman's apartment in the same building after 30 minutes and attempted to rape her, according to court documents.
"Can I get a dollar again?" he demanded as he shoved the 49-year-old woman into her bed, yanked up her nightgown, and masturbated. She bravely bit his hand and scratched him before striking him in the head with a hammer, forcing him to run.
Suspect Faces up to 25 Years Imprisonment
A homeless woman who was camped out in an apartment building's lobby became the ultimate casualty in his reign of terror. Prosecutors claim that Washington was seen on security footage pulling down the woman's pants, groping her buttocks, and masturbating.
Two days later, the Bronx warrant squad of the NYPD pulled him up at a homeless shelter and charged him with the offenses, which included attempted rape, burglary, forcible contact, and sexually motivated felony. The choice to grant Washington a plea agreement was justified by a representative for Bragg's office notwithstanding the gravity of his initial crime against his relative, as per Daily Mail.
Washington faced a maximum sentence of 25 years in jail if found guilty of the initial rape charge. "That's a great offer. He went from being accused of raping someone and facing a difficult 25-year sentence to just 30 days in jail, a police officer claimed. Such a joke.
Images of the suspect were released by NYPD Crime Stoppers for allegedly exposing himself and taking a woman's pants off while attempting to rape her in the Bronx on the morning of September 15, 2022. Police eventually identified the suspect as Washington.
Washington is currently being held at the Eric M. Taylor Center in Elmhurst, New York, according to his criminal history. His bail has been set at $150,000, according to the New York Department of Correction log, Heavy reported.
