Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the House, was not well received when she abruptly turned up at the Global Citizen music festival in Central Park on Saturday night.

Social media video shows Pelosi, who was speaking briefly, appearing to be booed when she entered the platform while donning a white pantsuit and scarf.

Videos reveal that some booing could be heard right away during the house speaker's speech, which covered topics such as reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change. She addressed the gathering after being introduced, saying, "As speaker of the house, I am here to thank you for your bright advocacy, entrepreneurial thinking, and dedication as global citizens."

While some audience members applauded Pelosi, others heckled her from the audience, and the commotion persisted throughout the majority of her remarks.

"Thanks to your support, the United States recently enacted historic climate legislation that will change the game," Pelosi said as the rumbling continued. "It would offer an extraordinary $370 billion to address the climate challenge and reduce carbon emissions by 40% by 2030."

Several hecklers can be heard shouting "let's go!" while the booing and applause persisted. Evidently seeking the continuation of the evening's festivities, as per New York Post. Given the festival's objectives of combating poverty and climate change, it's unclear from the clip why the crowd was condemning Pelosi, but the jeers might be an indication of discontent with Pelosi inside her own party.

Democratic Representative Elissa Slotkin of Michigan stated earlier this month on CNN's 'New Day' that if the Democrats win the House in the November elections, a new speaker should take Pelosi's position. The lawmaker declared, "I have always stated, I think it's time we have new leadership."

"We have a lot of New Yorkers and Californians in leadership; I'd like to see more diversity there. I made a promise to my district and keep that promise. Frankly, I think it's time that some Midwesterners come into leadership," Pelosi continued according to News Week via MSN.

Pelosi's First Public Appearance After Husband Was Sentenced

Acting as though she was aware of the crowds' differing reactions to her, Pelosi made the decision to keep her words brief and let the music continue. Pelosi's surprising trip did garner a lot of attention for several reasons despite the festival goers' apparent lack of enthusiasm in her visit.

The House Speaker made one of her first important public appearances after her husband Paul Pelosi was found guilty of drunk driving, and a large crowd saw her connect with celebrities before she entered the stage. Since Paul, 82, was sentenced to a three-day jail term in California last month for crashing his Porsche while intoxicated, the Pelosis made their first public appearance on Saturday.

On May 28, Paul was taken into custody in Napa Valley after crashing his 2021 Porsche into a Jeep just after 10 p.m. after a drunken supper. After that, he failed a field sobriety test and was found to be 0.08 percent drunk. Paul had alcohol on him, was slurring his words, and had drug evidence in his system when he was picked up by the police.

Even though he has committed crimes but has not been banned from the road, he will be obliged to install a special device in his car that will compel him to submit to a breathalyzer test before the ignition starting. He failed a field sobriety test, was in the front seat of the vehicle, and had "red and watery" eyes, according to the police, Daily Mail reported.
