The Metaverse Platform shows Mark Zuckerberg's latest effort not panning out as it should, as not too many are signing on. According to data, the platform, a multi-billion-dollar commodity, has not had the same growth in usage as Facebook and Instagram.
Metaverse Struggles To Gain Users
Horizon Worlds, the internet giant's social media site, would be performing under projections, and parent company Meta will be reducing its monthly user goals from 500,000 to 280,000., reported the Epoch Times.
The present count, as shown in the Wall Street Journal, remains at 200,000, far short of the 3.6 billion users worldwide on either Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp.
The confidential memos further disclosed that several visitors to Horizon Worlds had been going off after the initial month, but only nine percent of the worlds inside the forum had already been frequented by at least 50 people.
Horizon Worlds is an unlimited-access virtual reality computer game that is supposed to give users a platform to engage as well as start engaging with other people in an online world built from scratch.
The game is a component of the Metaverse being constructed by Mark Zuckerberg's Metaverse platform, which has been lauded as a chance for the tech giant to regain the precious youth audience it is starting to lose to portals like China TikTok.
However, Metaverse has been criticized for its poor quality, such as its graphics and apparent lack of distinction from previous virtual worlds, including Second Life.
Competing Metaverse sites have indeed observed similar difficulties in attracting regular users.
Horizon Worlds Gets Fewer Users
Data-tracking company DappRadar shows that the Ethereum-based virtual world Decentraland only had 38 visitors over 24 hours, whereas The Sandbox had just 522.
Decentraland is compelled to respond to the statement by saying that there had been "misleading information" concerning the number of active users.
Based on a corporate tweet, websites monitored only specific smart contract activities but misrepresented these as regular users by categorizing them as such.
Stuggle To Achieve the Expected Response
Prof. Barney Tan at the University of New South Wales also had uncertainties about whether Zuckerberg's Metaverse could achieve the advanced level it needs to keep subscribers connected.
He told the outlet in an email that its likelihood of succeeding depends on how many complementary service providers, co-developers, and users they are capable of attracting into its eco-system even though Meta can't do it all by itself.
There are also concerns about the positive or negative consequences of such a large-scale Metaverse interacting with millions of people, with experts pointing to already prevalent issues such as internet abuse and addiction, as well as poppies for the masses.
A founder of the social media site Gettr, Jason Miller, expressed a similar view. He continued, saying it is an internet continuation of identity politics and that anyone may be different online.
"It's not real life, and I think there's a certain point where you start getting into transhumanism and all kinds of weirdo stuff. It's not that big of a leap," Miller added.
The new Metaverse platform by Mark Zuckerberg lacks critical users as it needs to perform better soon.
