The woes of the Los Angeles Lakers continued as they suffered a 110-99 defeat to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night, continuing their winless start to the 2022-23 campaign.

Here's the rundown of the game as per Lakers Nation:

Austin Reaves started in place of Russell Westbrook and scored five points on the board quickly, including a three-pointer. Early on, Anthony Davis has shown aggression in the paint, seeking a shot.

Lonnie Walker IV sparked the Los Angeles offense by finishing a challenging drive at the hoop and draining his first three of the game to give the Lakers a one-point lead. The Lakers headed into the second down 26-22 due to Kendrick Nunn's scoring struggles.

In the early minutes of the second, LeBron James scored his first points of the game on a nice jumper, but Denver quickly regained a nine-point lead thanks to Bruce Brown's hot shooting from deep. After the Nuggets had warmed up on the court, James capitalized with a slam dunk in transition to bring the Lakers within three points.

On the Lakers' final possession of the first half, they moved inside to attack Denver's defense, and a lob from James to Davis gave Los Angeles a 54-54 tie.

After Davis had opened the second half with a difficult shot over Jokic, the Nuggets went on a 7-0 run to take the lead back. Denver's strong offensive performance resulted in an eight-point advantage, but the Lakers' woes deepened when Anthony Davis grasped at his back while chasing a rebound. However, despite the big man's efforts, they quickly fell by double digits.

The Lakers' defense began to break down as the Nuggets began to get almost any shot they wanted, resulting in a lopsided 81-65 score. Despite LeBron James' return and clutch layup at the end of the third, Los Angeles still trailed heading into the fourth.

The Lakers tried to catch up, but Denver came storming back both offensively and defensively, eventually building a 15-point lead.

When it became clear that Los Angeles would be unable to stage a comeback late in the quarter, head coach Darvin Ham emptied the bench and conceded defeat.

Are the Lakers Already Hopeless?

The Lakers made some moves in the offseason to try to strengthen their squad, but it seems that the goal was not achieved. The lackluster offensive performance of the team was blamed to the lack of competent long-range shooters in the roster.

A Yardbarker story underscored that the Lakers' only hope for a successful season is a series of deals. According to NBA analyst Aikansh Chaudhary, the Lakers will need to include their future first-round picks in any trade arrangement.

The CBS Sports columnist Bill Reiter said that even if the Lakers manage to get themselves out of the Westbrook situation by trading him or buying him out, they still might not have enough skill to do much this season. LeBron James will certainly become the NBA's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the process, "but that history is unlikely to be matched by similar team success."

Adding Insult to Injury

As the Lakers remain winless, several fans and personalities poke fun at their terrible start in the season on Twitter.

Some were even savage, but Lakers fans hope that LeBron James and his teammates would take these NBA Twitter remarks as a challenge to improve their game-- as their supporters are already tired of seeing them lose.
