An NYC college student was sentenced to 22 years in jail for killing his mother and getting caught for his mother's murder. The reason for the murder is to get the money, and he throws the corpse in a rubbish heap with the help of his girlfriends.

NYC College Student Gets 22 years in Sentence

Convicted killer Jared Eng, 25, took responsibility in the Manhattan Supreme Court for the slaying of Paula Chin about three years back, according to a NY Daily News report.

The victim, Chin, 65, was discovered in one of the garbage bins close to one of her homes in Morristown, New Jersey. Eng called in to report her missing last February 4, 2019.

Probers of the crime found items like two blood-covered gloves and even duct tape inside Chin's home, located on Vestry St. in lower Manhattan. The victim was stabbed and cracked on her skull savagely many times, noted Block Work Media.

Eng said its justice and accepted the sentence; he admitted to second-degree murder last September 16, citing True Crime Daily.

He went on to say that his mother deserved far more confidence than she received. She deserves happiness, grandchildren, and, most importantly, a better son. He also stated that he loves her and that the shame of what happened overwhelms him with guilt after killing his mother. But the judge doubted the convicted killer's remorse and gave the deserved prison term of 22 years.

Prosecutors on the case said the NYC college student could not wait to get the inheritance; when talking to an outlet, the killer said his mom had $11 million in the bank and a $12,000 monthly rent.

Two other suspects in the crime are the two girlfriends of Eng, Jennifer Lopez, and Caitlyn O'Rourke, with cases in the works. Lopez assisted in cleaning the bloody scene of the crime and later drove the victim's car to NJ, with the bloody corpse inside a duffle bag in the trunk. But O'Rouke is accused of cleaning blood-soaked clothes.

He attempted to ask for leniency in court for his accomplices. He explained to forgive them because they loved him.

Inheritance Money as Motive for Murder

Assistant District Attorney Joshua Steinglass displayed text messages ahead of Eng. the text demonstrated that he had a simultaneous relationship with both women.

One of the texts sent to Lopez said he spits on his mom's grave on FB messenger in 2018 and added that she's a source of income. In another exchange before the murder of Chin, he suggested staging her death to get all the money in the inheritance. He was willing to get accused of accidental manslaughter or claim going crazy to avoid prison and land in a mental hospital.

A voicemail was sent from jail to Eng's brother, saying he thought of paying for his two girlfriends' silence in a report.

One of the prosecutors, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, added that the lengthy sentence given to Eng would provide closure to the murder victim's immediate relatives. Bragg remarked that it would end this chapter for the family involved and thanked those on the case for finishing it and holding someone accountable.
