Tesla CEO Elon Musk has completed his Twitter takeover following a series of back-and-forth decisions with the company's top executives and has earned former United States President Donald Trump's praise.

The Republican businessman, however, opted to remain on his own social media platform, Truth Social, despite his ban from Twitter potentially being lifted under Musk. The tech billionaire previously promised to reinstate the former president's Twitter account if he took control of the company.

Musk's Twitter Takeover

In an interview on Friday, Trump said that he liked Elon, but was going to stay on Truth, without explicitly saying that he would not post on Twitter should his account be reinstated. The former president noted that whenever he posts on Truth, he is able to reach everywhere anyway and argued that people on Twitter were doing the same thing.

Previously, Twitter banned Trump on its platform after the latter's supporters stormed the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021. Now Musk, a self-described free speech absolutist, has taken control of the social media company and has begun firing top executives and offering little clarity over how he would be able to achieve his goals, as per Aljazeera.

Just a few hours after Musk started Twitter's new era, he had already received a slew of pleas and demands from banned account holders and world leaders. Trump earlier issued a statement on his own platform, saying that the social media company was in "sane hands."

The former president added that he believed his own social media platform, Truth Social, "looks and works better" than Twitter. Many are now expecting others who have had their Twitter accounts banned to be reinstated under Musk's new leadership.

According to CNBC, one user, known as @catturd2, is a well-followed Twitter user that repeatedly pushes false election fraud claims which have been retweeted by Trump, also tweeted at Musk on Thursday night. He said that he continued to lose followers on the platform and argued that he was having his account's reach limited by the company.

What Comes Next?

In response, Musk said, "I will be digging in more today" on Friday morning and followed up with, "let the good times roll." As of yet, nothing has seemed to change with the social media platform's operations. Trump's account was still banned and trending topics included everything from the news of the day to culture.

However, many people expected change, with "Elon" being one of the trending topics of the morning and many conservative influencers who had been critical of Twitter's old management being optimistic about what they considered a tectonic shift in leadership.

Starting off his new management, Musk tweeted that "the bird is freed" after he completed his $44 billion takeover of the social media platform. He was referencing the bird logo of the company in an attempt to see it have fewer limits on content that can be posted.

The Tesla CEO previously said that he planned to cut jobs, leaving many of Twitter's roughly 7,500 employees worried about their careers. He also noted that he did not buy the social media company to make more money, instead saying that he wanted to help humanity, Reuters reported.
