President Joe Biden said the American people want the government to "go on and get things done for them," not launch investigations against him, his family, or his administration as House Republicans have said they intend to do if they regain control of the chamber.
The chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, border policies under the Biden administration, the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago, and the bureaucratic decision-making behind COVID-related school closures and vaccine mandates are just a few of the topics that House Republicans are considering looking into.
Joe Biden Intends to Run in 2024 Presidential Election
Per CNN, President Joe Biden declared on Wednesday that running for reelection in 2024 is still in his "intention." Biden stated that he is not "any rush" to announce his candidacy for reelection despite his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, teasing an announcement for next week in remarks made from the White House following the midterm elections.
The president said that his timing won't be changed by Trump and remains "early next year" as he said he continues to discuss with his wife, first lady Dr. Jill Biden. When asked how he understands yesterday night's results in terms of pursuing a second term and whether they made it more probable, Biden said that they had no bearing on his and his family's decisions.
The fact that Democrats outperformed expectations in the midterms gave "whew - a sigh of relief that the mega-Republicans are not taking over the government again," said Biden, the oldest president in American history.
Even though Biden hasn't decided whether to run for office again, his senior advisors are preparing for a 2024 reelection campaign. Anita Dunn, a senior advisor at the White House, stated on Wednesday that preparations for a future campaign had already begun, regardless of Biden's choice.
When asked whether Florida Governor Ron DeSantis or Donald Trump would be a more formidable Republican opponent in 2024, Biden reacted angrily.
US Midterm Elections
Republican control of the House of Representatives is anticipated to be close, and the outcome of the Senate will depend on three contests that have not yet been called: Nevada, Arizona, and a run-off election in Georgia.
In both houses, Democrats were able to hold off a number of close races that were seen as a chance for a sizable Republican majority, Fox News reported. Prior to the vote, Biden anticipated that having a GOP-controlled Congress would make his job as president "difficult."
However, by the time he talks on Wednesday, the Senate's destiny won't have been decided, and even the House majority won't be final yet, though predictions indicate that the GOP should have a slight lead.
In 2010, Biden's midterm losses as vice president were unprecedented as Republicans gained seven seats in the Senate and 63 seats in the House. In his speech the day after the election, former President Barack Obama called it a "shellacking" and a loud message of rejection to his party. Overall, the voice of the American people was heard since people cast ballots and no significant problems were seen at the polls, according to Biden.
"The heart and soul of our democracy, the voters, poll workers, and election officials, did their jobs and fulfilled their responsibilities. It was a good day for democracy, and it was a wonderful day for America," he said, as per NBC News New York.
US voters' concerns are taken seriously, according to Biden. The president stated that political leaders need to take action on these crucial challenges, which range from economic worries, such as inflation, to crime and safety. In the future, Biden especially acknowledged the generation of voters who turned out in large numbers and called on leaders to do more.
Young people "voted to continue addressing the climate issue, gun violence, their own rights and liberties, and the student loan relief," according to Biden. Regardless of the outcome of the midterm elections, Biden also stated that he planned to run for president once more in 2024.
