Recently, the actors on "How I Met Your Mother" took to Twitter to tell fans how sad the final script was. There have been rumors that the show was leading up to an extremely heartbreaking ending. Some fans speculated that The Mother was going to die or might be sick while others believed something was going to happen to Ted.
Details surrounding the finale are being kept under wraps but that hasn't stopped the cast from telling fans to get ready for a tear-jerker.
"Read the HIMYM series finale script on the treadmill at the gym this morning. People probably thought that was sweat in my eyes. Suckers," Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby) tweeted.
Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin) tweeted a photo from the table read of a bunch of used tissues with the caption: "Umm. So this is how the last HIMYM Table Read went for me. #sorrytrees."
Neil Patrick Harris, who plays the womanizing Barney Stinson, was a little less weepy but admitted to being shocked after reading the script.
"Just finished the initial read thru of the final 'How I Met Your Mother'. Ever. Holy moly. Just... holy dang moly. #soproud."
The cast could be shedding tears because it's finally hit them that their long-running show is officially over but back in September 2012, creator Carter Bays even hinted that the last season would be "really heartbreaking."
The one-hour series finale of "How I Met Your Mother" airs March 31 on CBS. During the finale fans will be introduced to the characters from the New York-based spinoff "How I Met Your Dad."
The new series will follow Sally and will feature the same flashback format used in "How I Met Your Mother." Sally is described as a "vibrant, messy and unpredictable" character who's going through a divorce.
According to TV Line, the other major roles will be Sally's "older, overachieving gay brother" Danny; Danny's husband Todd who is "one of Sally's closest friends from college;" and Sally's best friend, the "sexy, flamboyant, energetic, party-girl" Juliet.
