Since Russia invaded Ukraine nine months ago, Vladimir Putin has lost more than 1,500 military officers, including roughly 160 generals and colonels, according to an open-source count that corroborates the results of other independent studies.

The Kremlin has been cautious in its public admissions of the extent of military casualties in Ukraine; the most current official figure of 5,397, provided in September by the defense minister Sergei Shoigu, is much lower than Western estimates.

Vladimir Putin Lost Siginificant Numbers of Russian Officials, Soldiers

In striking contrast, Mark Milley, the senior American general, claimed earlier this month that Moscow and Kyiv's armies had each suffered more than 100,000 losses since the conflict started when the Russians withdrew from Kherson.

Per The Independent, the US estimate of Russian losses first resembles the one made on Sunday by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who said that 87,310 Russian personnel had been killed, including 600 in the previous four days.

According to Ukrainian military sources, a Russian military unit guarding President Vladimir Putin's annexed land lost 70% of its soldiers in a single week. On February 24, Putin began his invasion of Ukraine with the intention of quickly defeating his neighbor to the east.

However, Ukraine put up a valiant resistance against Russian forces, helped by Western military assistance, preventing Russia from making significant military advances. Putin's military has had several difficulties during the course of the continuing, nine-month struggle, including a dearth of motivated personnel and claims of high attrition.

In a Facebook post on Monday that highlighted their own military achievements, Ukrainian military officials disclosed the most recent obstacle for Putin's soldiers, as per Newsweek via MSN.

Despite growing setbacks, Moscow has gained some ground in southeast Ukraine; nevertheless, Kyiv has recently reclaimed major portions of the region, notably the crucial city of Kherson. According to Ukraine, one Russian force attempting to maintain control of this land has sustained significant casualties recently.

About 86 miles northeast of Kherson, close to the settlement of Babyne, the soldiers were posted. Additionally, up to five "units" of military hardware were destroyed by Ukrainian forces. The report stated that further particular information on the deceased and injured military members was "being clarified."

The exceptionally high rate of high-ranking Russian military casualties in Ukraine is a result of a purported unwillingness to transfer authority to less experienced leaders.

Russia Faces Several Setbacks During War Against Ukraine

The Russian government as a whole is characterized by the fact that many generals and colonels are unwilling to decentralize leadership, making them more susceptible to assault as they gather their soldiers themselves close to the frontlines.

Putin's regular troops have suffered a total of 90,138 "irretrievable military and operational losses of men," according to the Russian Telegram channel General SVR. There have been 26,917 reported deaths of operators from private military firms like Wagner Group, which have enlisted tens of thousands of inmates released from Russian prisons to fight.

Meanwhile, the Russian national guard has lost 5,521 soldiers. Russia never provides new estimates nor discloses the extent of its losses. As a result, the number of Russia's losses in Ukraine remain unknown to the general public, Daily Mail reported. However, detractors charge Putin of employing the lower ranks as "cannon fodder" against Ukrainian forces that are better equipped and have access to enough supplies owing to Western military assistance shipments.

The most recent Russian casualty data were released as mothers and wives of soldiers killed in action expressed their indignation over Putin's staging of a "sham" meeting last week. The Kremlin leader met with a group of female officials and followers disguised as military mothers instead of truly grieving and incensed parents and family members of the deceased.
