Amber Heard claims she was humiliated during Johnny Depp's multimillion-dollar defamation trial in the United States. The 36-year-old 'Aquaman' actress explained she made the extremely difficult decision to settle with the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star.

Less than a month has passed since she attempted to appeal the verdict in her legal battle against Johnny, arguing that it will have a chilling effect on women.

Johnny Depp's Defamation Case Against Amber Heard

She was sued by Johnny Depp over an article she published in The Washington Post in 2018 about her experiences as a survivor of domestic abuse, which, according to his attorneys, portrayed him as an abuser. There was no mention of Johnny Depp in the article.

In June of this year, a jury at Fairfax County Court ruled in favor of Mr. Depp and awarded him damages totaling $10.3 million. Amber Heard claims that she was exposed to a type of humiliation that "I simply cannot relive in the United States, and calls for a retrial with a new jury."

In a statement posted on Instagram on Monday, she said, "After much deliberation, I have made the extremely difficult decision to settle the defamation case filed against me by my ex-husband in Virginia," according to Fox News.

Amber Heard Pays Johnny Depp

The ex-couple's attorneys have reached an agreement in which Heard's insurance company will pay Depp $1 million. Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez, attorneys for Depp, said the actor is relieved the "painful chapter" is over and confirmed he will donate the money to charity.

In a public statement, they said, "We are pleased to formally close this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made it clear throughout this process that bringing the truth to light was his top priority."

The jury's final ruling and the resulting verdict in favor of Depp against Heard remain in full effect. Heard's acknowledgment of the conclusion of the legal system's rigorous pursuit of justice is bolstered by Depp's pledge of $1 million, which he will donate to charity.

However, in a significant victory for Heard, there are no restrictions on what she can say about the case, and she has not admitted guilt. Heard claimed she was a victim of domestic violence during the couple's 15-month marriage, resulting in a bitter legal battle on both sides of the Atlantic for the past six years.

A courtroom in London ruled in her favor, whereas a second courtroom in Fairfax, Virginia, this year sided with Depp. Following a six-week trial, the actress, 36, was ordered to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million (later reduced to $365,000) in punitive damages, while Depp, 59, was ordered to pay Heard $2 million for defamation.

After Heard filed an appeal, the two parties' legal teams have been in negotiations to avoid a third, bruising trial. A deal was finally reached over the weekend, and both parties have agreed to release a joint statement today at 2pm GMT (9am ET).

A source close to the actress said that Amber Heard is now looking forward to moving on with her life, as she had planned six years ago, as per Daily Mail.
