Police in Stamford apprehended a Connecticut mom for the death of her two-year-old son, who was found in a park placed in a plastic bag.

Toddler Found Lifeless in a Plastic Bag in Cummings Park

Last February 3, a media statement from the Stamford Police charged Iris Rivera-Santos, 29, for endangering a child's welfare, stopping justice, altering evidence, with cruelty to persons, reported Meaww.

Police alleged to have found the body of Liam Rivera, 2, stashed in a trash bag close to Cummings Park on January 2. The 26-year-old father, Edgar Ismalej-Gomez, is the suspect but has not been charged with murder yet. Authorities claimed that Ismalej-Gomez kept Rivera-Santos at gunpoint for a few days, adding she had a part in the child's death, per Kiro7.

Based on the police report saying the charges had been reached in an extensive probe that was done in concert with the Stamford State's Attorney's Office. The man is held by the police and has a bond of 1 million dollars.

Connecticut Mom Reports Toddler's Death

One of the outlets, Law and Crime, stated that an unknown informant called the police about a possible threat to the health and safety of a child. They followed the advice of the call and dispatched officers to find the dead child in Cummings Park, later arresting the man and charging him. The Chief Medical Examiner concluded that the man hit the two-year-old boy on the head before death.

Mayor Caroline Simmons of Stamford expressed condolences to the family of the boy. Added how the Stamford Police Department will get more evidence in the probe. Furthermore, she expressed full support for the police investigating the crime and relevant services to help the family deal with the tragic abuse case and resolve it.

Based on records showing that Ismalej-Gomez had been accused of third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. In 2021, he broke Liam's arm and was charged to five years in prison, with a plea deal. However, he was released in May 2022 after 60 days only, under probation, per ABC7.

Ismalej-Gomez did not attend probation meetings in June and did not connect with his assigned probation officer for a month. He even stopped attending classes on parenting as ordered by the court and later went to live with his son and wife.

The couple took the toddler's dead body to the park after Ismalej-Gomez beat the child to death, according to the Supervisory State's Attorney Michelle Manning in a trial last month.

Ismalej-Gomez threatened to kill Rivera-Santos by keeping his gun trained on her and forcing her to be with him in West Virginia. But she got away and called her lawyer, who reached out to the police to get her husband.

Despite the charges against her, which Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin pointed out, she was threatened with death by her husband. Though a Connecticut mom is part of the reason for her toddler son's death, her life was threatened by the perp as well.
