Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan traveled to the disaster zone as rescue efforts raced against time, and the death toll from the deadly Turkey-Syria Earthquake increased.

The Turkey-Syria Earthquake death toll has risen to over 11,000, and that number is only likely to climb. Monday's quake is now the deadliest since Japan's 9.0-magnitude quake in 2011 caused three disasters that killed over 20,000 people, per NBC News.

President Erdogan visited the city of Kahramanmaras, located close to the epicenter, and spoke with survivors taking refuge in white tents on the grounds of a nearby sports stadium, per The New York Times.

Erdogan said households would get 10,000 liras (about $530) to deal with the catastrophic Turkey-Syria Earthquake during a period of economic uncertainty and a high inflation increase last year.

Meanwhile, a viral video showed a Syrian child refugee being pulled from the debris in Turkey by rescue workers.

Viral Video Shows Rescue Of Syrian Boy

A Syrian boy was rescued from a collapsed building in Hatay, Turkey. Nearly 45 hours after the first of two severe earthquakes, the personnel provided the boy with water from a bottle cap before taking him out, per Al Jazeera.

In other related news, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department stated on Monday that the department's elite urban search and rescue unit is on its way to Turkey to assist with the tragedy, adding that they had recovered survivors during their responses to international earthquakes in the past.

Deputy Fire Chief Tom Ewald said, "One of the most important things is for the people to have hope," and furthered that every bit of hope "makes a difference" for the victims of the Turkey-Syria Earthquake.
