Chris Rock has cracked jokes about Meghan Markle's claims that the royal family is racist.
In a first for Netflix, the comic staged his stand-up show, Selective Outrage, streamed live on Saturday, March 4.
Chris Rock Calls Out Meghan Markle
He discussed Markle's April 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey during the show. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stated in the interview that there were "concerns" at Buckingham Palace about "how dark" Archie's complexion might be before he was born.
Rock contested the notion that Markle was a victim of racism and dismissed her experience as "in-law s***," stating that she was only dealing with "in-law s***."
Nevertheless, a spokesperson for the couple rejected claims that they were contemplating legal action, calling the rumors "nonsense."
Additionally, Rock criticized the Duchess of Sussex for her allegations of racism, stating that she was instead dealing with internal family dysfunction and that she had won the "light-skinned lottery."
According to The Independent, Chris Rock asserted that "even black people want to know how brown" her child would be. That was the second time in less than a month that Meghan Markle was publicly ridiculed on television for pretending to be a victim after a recent South Park episode featured the Duchess traversing the globe and whining about her lack of privacy.
During his two-and-a-half-hour stand-up special, when he referenced Meghan Markle, Chris Rock ranted against individuals who attempt to portray themselves as victims. Then, Rock attacked remarks she made during an interview with Oprah last year.
It is unknown whether the Sussexes would respond to Rock's comments, despite having previously denied that they would sue South Park's authors over their portrayal in a recent episode.
South Park Episode Also Mocks Meghan Markle, Prince Harry
The controversial South Park episode dubbed 'The Global Privacy Tour' makes fun of the royal couple's desire for seclusion while on a publicity blitz for the prince's memoirs "Waaaah" - a jab at Prince Harry's new memoir 'Spare.'
It is replete with digs at the Sussexes, with the main character, Stan Marsh, referring to their cartoon counterparts as the "dumb prince and his stupid wife" and Kyle Broflovski complaining about the luxury plane parked at their property. After the program aired, it was reported that Meghan Markle was "upset and overwhelmed" by the couple's unflattering portrayal. A royal commentator stated that the Sussexes' lawyers were "keeping an eye" on the animated series.
In a statement provided to Newsweek, a spokesperson for Prince Harry and his wife has subsequently dismissed reports that they plan to sue over the satirical episode as "boring and unfounded."
The harsh statement did not address rumors that the couple's attorneys may monitor South Park to see whether the show's creators launch more assaults against the marriage in the future. Likewise, there was no response to accusations that Meghan Markle was "upset and overwhelmed" by the couple's portrayal in the episode, as per Daily Mail.
Prince Harry stated at a Q&A promoting the book Spare that he has never solicited pity. A brand marketing specialist also appeared on the broadcast and labeled Meghan Markle as a "sorority girl, actor, influencer, victim."
