According to a new report, Chris Rock is still waiting to hear from Will Smith. Rock, 58, recently criticized Smith, 54, and the notorious slap incident at the 2022 Oscars in his Netflix comedy show 'Selective Outrage.' However, he has not yet gotten a personal, official apology from the actor.
"Will never issued a private apology to Chris, merely a public one that meant nothing," a source recently told the Daily Mail. In a series of teary-eyed speeches, the 'Emancipation' actor expressed his contrition for his conduct during the smackdown in March of last year.
Chris Rock 'Selective Outrage' Sparks Backlash
In July of the same year, Will Smith posted a video stating that he had reached out to Rock, but "the response was that he is not ready to communicate."
Per NY Post, the 'Selective Outrage' premiere occurred on March 4, only days before the airing of this year's Oscar Awards. "Netflix, not Chris, picked when to air this," the insider claimed, indicating that the timing is accidental.
Yet, according to the source, Rock's choice to discuss the incident on his Netflix program has nothing to do with retribution. Elsewhere in his stand-up performance, the 'Everyone Hates Chris' producer mocked Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, referencing their fury over the alleged racism of the royal family.
According to the insider, Rock "is not racist at all. The opposite could not be further from the truth." They said that Rock is a black man making jokes about other black people from the standpoint of a black person. He has nothing but affection for all individuals, including black folks.
Chris Rock Strikes Back at Will Smith
When it came to bringing up the slap gate issue on stage, the comic did not hold back. Instead, Chris Rock intensified his attack on the A-list marriage by bringing up Jada Pinkettt-Smith's romance with Jaden's close friend, the 30-year-old artist August Alsini, in 2020.
Chris Rock told a stunned live and on-location audience that Will Smith's wrath was misdirected since his wife had slept with her son's best friend. Will Smith has been banned from attending the Oscars for the next ten years due to his violent outburst at last year's ceremony.
Chris Rock's embarrassing response aired exactly one week before the 2023 Oscars are scheduled for March 12. Chris Rock's punch lines prompted social media users to accuse him of racism for bringing up the controversial subject.
The notorious slap occurred in March of 2022 when Chris Rock presented the Oscar for best documentary film. He turned to Will Smith and Jada and stated he was "looking forward" to seeing Jada as G.I. Jane, making fun of her shaved head.
Will Smith quickly ascended the platform and struck Christopher in the side of the head. After returning to his first-row seat, he said, "Get my wife's f***ing name out your lips."
The sole other apology occurred in July 2022, when Will Smith again issued a video apology to Chris Rock, stating, "I'm sorry. My behavior was inappropriate, and I'm available anytime you're ready to talk."
In a new story published by People, a source close to Will Smith stated that he "tried unsuccessfully to make up with Chris in the best manner he could; however, the comedian's attempts did not include calling him in person."
