The Oscars are one of the most distinguished film industry acclaims, and, as always, millions of viewers are expected to tune in to watch this year's edition of the awards.

The 95th Academy Awards are given out annually in a ceremony in Los Angeles that honors the best of the best in filmmaking in artistic and technical categories, per Al Jazeera.

The Oscars 2023, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is generally regarded as one of the film industry's top honors. An Oscar, a golden statuette, is awarded to the winners. Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars 2023. It will be his third time since 2018.

Legendary Composer Sets Record

With his modest but melancholy pieces for Steven Spielberg's "The Fabelmans," 91-year-old John Williams has already broken the record for the oldest individual to get an Oscar nomination for a competitive prize.

John Williams has been nominated for an Oscar an unprecedented 53 times, next only to Walt Disney's 59 nominations. If he wins at Sunday's Oscars 2023, it would be his sixth statuette overall. He will set a new record for the oldest winner in the history of any competitive category, according to France 24.

A screenwriter, James Ivory set the record for the oldest Oscar winner at age 89.

Which Movies Are Nominated For Best Picture?

The films contending for best picture in Oscars 2023 are the following: "All Quiet on the Western Front," "Avatar: The Way of Water," "The Banshees of Inisherin," "Elvis," "Everything Everywhere All at Once," "The Fabelmans," "Tár," "Top Gun: Maverick," "Triangle of Sadness," and "Women Talking," according to PBS.

The 95th annual Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 12, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards show starts at 5 pm (01:00 GMT on March 13), and ABC will be airing it live in the US.
